CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

Project Context

Making evaluation of instructors is a task that schools and universities

required to perform. This is done to see the students feedback in regards to the
teaching technique of their professors. It is a time consuming task most
specifically if it is done manually. In this context, the traditional method of using
pens and papers phase out.
Every end of the school year, one of the activities done by the Guidance
officer of every schools and universities is the evaluation of the Faculty members.
The process is to gather all the information using rating sheets. After gathering
the evaluation sheets, the staffs need to tally all the data manually. But were now
on the new generation, where everything is online.
Nowadays, technology plays an important role in our lives. It makes our
daily work faster, easier and more efficient. It enables us to make complex
situations simple and hassle free. Were now living a generation where
information can be just one click away, and with the use of online and web-based
systems, information can be gather easily. As a result, it became a trend in our
society and many institutions automate their evaluations. This will become a
great help in our school, the Binangonan Catholic College, Guidance and Human
Resource Office. So the researchers decided to explore a computer-aided and

web based approach to evaluation that may provide tangible benefits to the
school.
Purpose and Description of the Project

The purpose of the faculty evaluation is to let the faculty know the
effectiveness of the class in teaching the intended material and their
effectiveness in facilitating your learning. The purpose of this project is to help the
Guidance and Human Resource Office to make their work easier and more efficient.
This will also help the Binangonan Catholic College to save funds for printing. This
system will also help the faculty not to consume lots of time in conducting the
evaluation. This will provide better access and accuracy of data stored in database. The
proposed system will easily compute or tally the grade of the evaluated instructors. It
guarantees both the Guidance and Counseling Office who implement the evaluation
and the students who will evaluate their instructors, with more convenience and timesaving way.
The system has a typical evaluation form consist some questions where students
have to give a numerical grade and comment fields. This also provides the summary
of the evaluation for the instructors. Each year levels have their own evaluation forms.
The administrator is the one that will set who will be the instructors that will be evaluated
by their students. The administrator also is the one who will create the students basic
account.
Conceptual Framework
In order to make a new system the researchers identify how the existing system
works. The conceptual framework identifies how the cycle of the proposed system
performs. The figure 1.0 shows the components of the IPO model. Input is the data

flowing into the system from outside. The next stage in the information flow is the input
data being manipulated in some way. Processing is the action of manipulating the input
into a more useful form. The final stage in the information flow is normally to present the
information in a user-friendly way. Output is the information flowing out of the system.

Statement of the Problem

This study aims the development of evaluation of instructors for Binangonan Catholic
College, Guidance Faculty. Specifically it sought to address the following concerns:
1. What is the extent of the problems faced by the Guidance Office in terms of the
following?
a. The availability of the evaluation personnel.
b. The availability of the students.
2. What is the level of acceptability of the system in terms of:
a. Performance?
b. Security?
c. Usability?
d. Functionality?
3. What is the level of effectiveness of the system in terms of:
e. Appearance?
f. Maintain Ability?
g. Content?
4.

What is the level of agreement of the faculty in terms of the accessibility of the
evaluation online?

Objectives of the Study

The aim of this study is the development of the Faculty Evaluation for Binangonan
Catholic College, Guidance Office. The specific objectives are as follows:

1. To be able to know if the teaching strategy of the instructors is effective.

2. To be able to know what should be enhanced by the instructors.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The researchers designed the Online Faculty Evaluation System for Binangonan
Catholic College, Guidance Office. It aims to enhance the process and flow, and to
automate the manual system of faculty evaluation. There are lots of evaluations in school,
but this system mainly focuses on evaluation of the instructors of the said college
institution.
In this system, each year levels have their own evaluation forms. The Admin is the one
that will set who will be the instructors that will be evaluated by their students. The admin
also is the one who will create the students basic account.
The system will make use of Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) for creating web
pages so the system can view through web browsers. The appearance of a web page will
be enhanced using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), which has an ability to style and design
web pages. For the database of the system, the MySQL will be use. To interact with the
database, building and facilitating login systems, the researchers will use PHP.

Significance of the Study

The study will be a great help to the following:

Students It can help them to have an easy and time saving way of evaluating their
instructors.
Guidance/HR Office It can help them to have an efficient way in facilitating the faculty
evaluation.
Researchers - The proposed system will help the researchers to develop their writing,
analysis, programming and designing skills needed to make a good research paper.
Definition of Terms
System - It is a group of interrelated components working together toward a common
goal by accepting input and producing output in an organized transformation process.

MySQL - the world's most widely used open-source relational database management
system (RDBMS) that runs as a server providing multi-user access to a number of
databases, though SQLite probably has more total embedded deployments.

Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) - It is the

main markup

language for

creating web pages and other information that can be displayed in a web browser.

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) - It is a style sheet language used for describing the
presentation (the look and formatting) of a document written in a markup language.

PHP - it is a server scripting language, and is a powerful tool for making dynamic and
interactive Web pages quickly.
