'FDI policy to have positive impact'

We are grateful that the government has realised and appreciated the value that we
will bring to strengthen the Indian economy.

A+ A-

It is early to comment before we understand the details and ramifications of the government
decision on FDI in multi-brand retail. But we believe that allowing 51 per cent FDI in multibrand retail is an important first step towards further liberalising this sector.
We are grateful that the government has realised and appreciated the value that we will bring
to strengthen the Indian economy. This policy change will allow us to connect directly with
the consumer and help them save money.
This is one of the defining moments, though
not as bold as we would like, particularly in
view of the cap on retail chains to be restricted
to 51 cities with a population of more than a
million. But the benefits are so overwhelming
that no one will oppose it.

will help reduce wastage of farm produce, improve the livelihood of farmers, lower the prices
of products and ease supply-side inflation.
Through these, and several other initiatives, we hope to make a positive impact on the lives
of the people of India.
The government has said that at least 50 per cent of the total FDI will be invested in backend infrastructure within three years of investment.
This back-end infrastructure will include capital
expenditure on all activities other than front-end
facility.

There will be an area of export benefit to the

country. The medium and small enterprise
(MSME) will work with large retailers with
access to the world markets like Africa and
Central and Latin America. These are the people who are like us. The opening will be of
immense help to them.
An improvement in supply chain will have far reaching implications for farming sector. It
would be a great help to them (farmers and other stake holders), since they can now access
these new markets on their own, as well as leveraging the relationship with us. The supply
chain would be improved and particularly benefit areas like export of fruits like banana and
pomegranate in new international markets.
