Instructor: Michael Grefe Week 6 Assignment 1
Justifying the
Solution
PART I
Justification:
This project was developed under the concept for a single young man in his 30s that likes
to Socialize, drinking wine and is interested in Bauhaus style. The designers goal was to
make the environment friendly and inviting but, masculine at the same time. The designer
also wanted to bring in the home a piece of nature since the Clients ethnicity is Brazilian.
These goals were achieved by using bright yet masculine colors that resembled Brazil and
its nature as well as, incorporating a lot of wine cabinets and wine barrels as furniture
pieces which all reflect on the clients culture and diversity that will be occupying the
space. Especially, when selecting the wall art work since thats exactly what the Bauhaus
style is all about.
Working on the Schematic plan lead the Designer to make some changes due to the
furniture feeling like it was too cluttered together. The overall change was a success since
it made the space seem bigger and even though it was an open space it also allowed the
rooms to show some time of division.
Reflecting
PART II
I truly enjoyed this class, its by far one of the best in the Residential Planning diploma
program. I truly enjoyed it because it combined everything that was learned throughout the
entire program and that keeps assuring me of my work.
The three topics that I strongly feel will be the most helpful in my career is Auto Cad,
Rendering and the Building Codes. I selected these three specific topics because its
extremely important to know whats expected in your state for the safety of everyone living
in the home. So if you do not have that knowledge then you cant be successful. Also, it
helps with any last minute and/or unexpected changes. For instance, if you need to add
ramps, shorten the cabinets or widen doors etc.; for someone thats disabled. I feel like
Auto Cad and Rendering helps bring your vision to life. To help your clients envision
whats in your head and what your trying to create for them. Helps them agree or make any
last changes.
Lastly, I feel that everything Ive learned has prepared me to move forward in this career.
Everything somehow links with each other and it all works out. However, I must say Im
extremely impressed at how Im able to sketch things now when I never drew anything in
my life before taking this program.

Client Profile
The Clients name is Eric Neymar. Mr. Neymar is a Brazilian single man
in his late 30s; Hes interested in playing and watching Soccer,
networking and collecting wine. Therefore, the colors to be selected is a
warm Color Palette.
Mr. Neymar is an Entrepreneur; he works at a software company. Since
the company is just starting up he works a lot from home, which is why
Mr. Neymar needs a home office. The Residential space is right above a
coffee shop which is convenient for Mr. Neymar, if he needs to schedule
private meetings and doesnt feel comfortable bringing people into his
residence.
A Wine storage is also very important since hes a huge wine collector
and tends to bring wines from all over the world when he travels for his
business.
Lastly, Mr. Neymar is interested in this particular Residence because he
enjoys the art and the history behind his building which is a Bauhaus
Style. The area also offers plenty of restaurants and Pubs for Mr. Neymar
to enjoy since he is a single man.

PART III
CONCEPT STATEMENT
This design will be connected with Mr. Neymars background/Culture and hobbies, which is Brazil
and wine. There will be a connection to the nature and freedom there is in Brazil, as well as the
openness and airy feel of a winery. Thats where the Warm Color Palates come in. However, Mr.
Neymar is also a very masculine man, which is why there would be some masculine touches as well.
Such as vertical lines to make the space seem higher. This is why the Tetrad color scheme makes the
most sense.
For instance, the green and Yellow will be used as high lights to bring the warmth and jungle,
happy feel to the home. Meanwhile the wood (Brown) and blue will bring in the Masculine and rustic
touches that brought from the outdoors in vineyards. Its basically bringing the outside in. With Mr.
Neymars love for Soccer and socializing it will be a perfect combination bringing the two together in
unity as one.

AND THE REST AS ACCENTS.

Justifications:
The chosen furniture meets Mr. Neymars needs in the scenes that the furniture is
masculine, Modern and Bauhaus; which is the clients selected style. The Fabric selected meets
these same expectations as well as, including the clients culture and background. Bringing in the
outside socializing atmosphere into the clients home. Each Theme complements each other in
the scenes that all the colors are evenly combined through out the house. Its not too much of a
certain color. Also, some of the pieces are from the same collection repeating the harmony
through out the house and each room individually.

Justifications:
The light fixtures, finishes and colors selected meet the needs of Mr. Neymar because it
involved a lot of lighting which is beneficial to the client when socializing with his friends and
drinking wine.
The selected colors and finishes go back to relating to his background for example the
bamboo relates to the outside and goes well with the blue, green and yellows incorporated.
Lastly; the selected products contribute to a healthy environment because some of the
selected lighting are energy saver and the selected paint is a Venetian plaster and its a green
product.

The strength of this project is that all of the clients needs are met, however the weakness
is making sure its not too cluttered.
The elements that can be modified to achieve better symmetrical balance would have to
be the lack of windows.
What is pleasing about this model is the fact that it creates this open space, bringing the
inside out and the outside in.
The Scale plays a role in the way that the windows and the storage component brings in
some sort of separation but, your still able to see into the next room without any issues.
Connecting everyone and everything together making it perfect for socializing.
The Dominant form seen in this design would be the floor to ceiling windows as well as,
the storage component making it a pattern and sort of a repetition going on in the design. The
Subdominant would also be Storage Component, if not place in the correct place, it can seem as
if its too big and just in the way. Also, the side walls, if not decorated beautifully and equally it
can seem blah, plain and boring.
