Background: The alcohol consumption increased around the country and it
might cause health problems, one of them was gonadal dysfunction.
Exposure of alcohol continuously can suppress respiration in mitochondria
then it cause increase the ROS. Consequently, the cell function could be
impaired along with protein, nucleic acid, and lipid damage. Red watermelon
juice contains high lycopene that have an effect as antioxidant against ROS.
Objective: To analyze the effect of red watermelon juice (Citrullus vulgaris)
to the seminal vesicles weight and the number of spermatogenic cellss
layers of male white rat (Rattus norvegicus Wistar strain) which were
exposed by alcohol.
Methode: Experiment post test only control group design. Divided into K(-),
K(+) that was exposed by alcohol 25% 3 ml/kg/time twice a day, P1 and P2
that were exposed alcohol 25% 3 ml/kg/time twice a day, and then it were
given red watermelon juice 1,8 ml (P1) and 2,4 ml (P2) for 15 days. The data
were statistically analyzed by One Way ANOVA, Tukey HSD, and Pearson
correlation test.
Result: The weight of seminal vesicles white rat with ANOVA test has
p<0,05 that showed there were significant differences between groups. The
increase of red watermelons juice dose could gave more effect to seminal
vesicles rats weight (Pearson correlation=0,695). The number of
spermatogenic cellss layers of white rat with ANOVA test has p<0,05 it
showed there were significant difference between groups. The increase of
watermelons juice dose could give more effect to the number of
spermatogenic cellss layers in white rat (Pearson correlation= 0,947).
Conclusion: There were effect of red watermelon juice (Citrullus vulgaris) to
the seminal vesicles weight and the number of spermatogenic cellss layers
of male white rat (Rattus norvegicus Wistar strain) which were exposed by
alcohol.
