    pollutioninkeyrivers,theMinistryofWaterResources(MoWR)isenteringintoaslewofagreementswithGermany,IsraelandtheUnited
    Kingdomtolearnhowtheycleanedandrevivedkeyriversaswellasusedtechnologytomanagedroughtandusedsparsewaterbetter.
    OnTuesday,theMoWRsignedanagreementwiththeGermanInternationalCooperation(GIZ)ofGermanytohelpwithcleaningtheGanga.
    TheNamamiGangaisaflagshipRs.30,000croreprogrammeoftheNDAgovernmenttocleantheGangaandrestoreitsflowsby2020.
    Thewaytodothis,accordingtothegovernment,istohavepublicsectorundertakingsdevelop52sewagetreatmentandeffluenttreatment
    plants(STPs)andcleaningupanumberofghats,besidesusingskimmersat11placestotakemuckoutoftheriverstream.Germany,thatwill
    contributeRs.22.2croretotheendeavour,willprovidetechnicalconsultancytodealwithindustrialeffluentsinUttarakhand,beforethey
    emptyoutintotheriver.
    GermanysultimategoalistobringbackMotherGangainIndiatoitspristineconditionasithasbeendonesuccessfullyforFatherRhine
    inGermany,saidGermanAmbassadorMartinNey.
    Wewontbebuyingtechnologiesbecauseinmanycasesweknowwhatistobedonebuttheirexperienceincleaningtheirownriversis
    whatsmostimportant,ShashiShekhar,Secretary,MoWR,toldTheHindu.HesaidsimilaragreementswereinplacewiththeU.K.for
    expertiseinrevivingaquaticlifeattheheadoftheGanga.
    InthecaseofIsrael,theMinistrysaid,technologiesforwaterpurificationandfiltrationwerelikelytobeshared.
    IndiancompaniesalreadyusedesalinationtechnologiessourcedfromIsraelbutofficialssaidtherewasmuchmorescopeforfurther
    engagement.
