28. Once upon a time, there lived a poor old farmer in a small
hut. One day, when Mr. Farmer was about to go to work, he saw an
egg lying on the ground in front of his house. He carefully picked the
egg and took it into the house. Mr. Farmer covered the egg with a
rag and put it in a box to keep it warm. After that, he went to the
farm to work.
29. Mr. Farmer used to warm the egg every day until the egg
hatched. lt turned out to be a gull. Mr. Farmer treated the little Gull
with great affection. He looked after the Gull well. The days passed,
a small gull grew bigger. Mr. Farmer realized that the Gull was not
going to stay with him forever. With tears in his eyes, Mr. Farmer let
the Gull go south to its place.
30. One day, Mr. Farmer was sick. He had no money to buy
medicine, firewood or food. As he was lying on his bed, suddenly a
person knocked on the door. It was in fact the Gull. It brought a few
seeds in its beak. Mr. Farmer was astonished to see the Gull there.
The Gull entered the house, gave Mr. Farmer a drink and looked after
him as Mr. Farmer did to it previously.
31. Before leaving, the Gull handed Mr. Farmer the seeds. The
Gull helped to plant the seeds in Mr. Farmers house yard. Mr. Farmer
thanked the Gull. The next day, there was a miracle. The seeds
planted had grown tall and bore fruits. Mr. Farmer was surprised but
pleased to see it. He took and ate the fruits. Surprisingly, he became
strong and recovered from his illness.
32. Mr. Farmer took a good care of the tree. The tree continued
to bear fruits and did not dry in all seasons. Mr. Faimer sold the fruits
and got a lot of money and shared partly to his neighbors.

children. She was sad and cried. She felt a sleep and dreamt an old
woman informed that her children were in the pond near the party. If
she wanted to meet them, she should throw a handful of rice into the
pond.
56. She woke up and ran to the Pond. She threw the rice into the
pond. Two big fish with beautiful colors appeared in the pond. Her
children turned into big beautiful fish because they disobeyed their
mothers message. Since then, the village near the pond was called
Desa Sungai Jernih which means clear river.
