IBS

05/27/10 CBS Overview 12

How does Surround Application Works?
• Surround applications like ATM , IBS are different
systems and they can not communicate directly with
CBS.
• An intermediate server known as Connect 24
( Bancsconnect) facilitates the communication.
• Communicate to CBS in ISO8583 standard format.
• ATM and IBS are required to be available to the
customers on 24 X 7.
– But during the day end , day begin and other maintenance
period, the CBS server may not be available for these ADC (
Alternate delivery channels)
05/27/10 CBS Overview 13
How to provide the Services?
• Another server known as CSIS (Centralized
Stand In Server) is introduced
– CSIS will be have the latest / current account details
( like balance, transactions etc,) as available in CBS
DB server.
– It gets the continues updates from CBS DB server
– BC will take ADC transactions to CSIS during the
outage of CBS DB server.
• Customer is serviced

05/27/10 CBS Overview 14

• Precaution to be taken is
– When the CBS DB server is UP, the Transactions
made in the CSIS server are to be updated first.
• System has been designed to handle so.
– In case it is not updated , the transactions of CSIS
will not be reflected in CBS DB
– Similarly, in case the CSIS server is down when
CBS DB is up and functioning, the transaction
details of CBS DB will not be reflected in CSIS.
– Both are not desirable
• It is monitored and managed 24 x 7 by DC

Redundancy and Fall back
&
Disaster Setup

05/27/10 CBS Overview 17

• Technology will face hiccups
– Adequate redundancy is to be build
• In every possible stage of the setup
• Data Centre (DC)
– DRS with 100% computing power
– Data is replicated to DRS continuously from DC,
with a time gap of 30 mts.
• Storage based replication for cbs
• Oracle based ( data guard).
– DRS can be started within 2 hours of DC
disruption.

05/27/10 CBS Overview 18

• However DRS switch over is the last resort.
• Sufficient redundancy has been build in the DC
setup
• The servers are in clusters
– DB server has a similar server of same capacity
and power
• In case the main DB server fails the standby server will
start functioning within a time lag of 10- 15mts.
– This time is required to start the services in the standby server
– Web servers are in clusters ( fail over) so as
application servers.

05/27/10 CBS Overview 19

• Storages are in RAID 1+0
– Every bit of data is written in 2 disks ( Mirroring)
– Any one disk failure will enable us to retrieve the
data from the mirrored disk
• System handles it automatically.
• NETWORK redundancy
– ZNCs are connected to DC and DRS through
separate lease line
– DC and DRS are connected through link from BSNL
and Reliance ( 2 separate links)
– Any link failure between ZNC and DC
• Connectivity can be established through ZNC ->DRS-
>DC
05/27/10 CBS Overview 20
• ZNCs and DC / DRS have ISDN connection ,
which shall be used for connectivity in case of
lease line failure
• The connection between NC & ZNC and BOs
& NC / ZNC
– Are established with LL and ISDN
• Now the second connection is established with VSAT
or RF.
• But, still the connectivity is lost at branch level
– BCP is to be followed for uninterrupted customer
service.

05/27/10 CBS Overview 22

• User access CBS either from PC or Thin
client.
• It is a web browser based access ( I.E)
– Similar to Internet browsing
• URL is intranet address
• Access is granted after authentication of
userid and password
• User command is transmitted from PC on
commit
