Internship Rotation (circle one): |
Nutrition Therapy 1d Systems Managemen Community/Business/Entrepreneur
1. Briefly identify some examples of what you have learned and what skills were developed in this
rotation.
In this rotation | worked with a lot of people in a lot of different areas. | used CBoard with just
about every supervisor | worked will and now feel very proficient with CBoard and that | can manage the
system well. | learned how Reid produces their food for their patients, the café, and the community. |
got to see what it takes to deliver for ten different places in the community, feeding over 300 adults and
children. | learned about ordering and purchasing, inventory and stock, and how the kitchen and the
café runs and operates. | learned how patients call to order their meals, the different type of patient diet
Reid has, and how the room service functions. | also worked with the Patient Nutrition Assistants who
work with the patients every day and deliver their trays. | also was able to experience how to put a meal
together for about 100 people from start to finish with my theme meal. The meal had to be in CBoard
‘two weeks in advance, so there was a strict timeline that | had to follow and deadlines to meet. | also
learned why an ingredient notebook is so important to the café because customers need to be aware of
allergens in the food they are purchasing. | also got to experience a huge catering event for over 350
people and how the production and staff work together to create a great meal. Every supervisor | was
with taught me a different skill and what it takes to do their particular job in the food service industry. |
got to experience cooking classes and what itis like to be in front of a live audience and how to react to
certain things.
2. How would you evaluate your ability to function as a dietitian in this area of practice? What are
some of your strengths? What are some aspects that may entail further growth?
I would describe my ability to function as.a dietitian in the food service area as skillful and
capable, My strengths include being able to adapt to change very quickly. | have never worked in a
hospital environment before and | did not know the staff operates and functions. | was able to adapt to
‘a new work environment and learn very quickly about how things are done at Reid Health. | was given
many tasks over the nine weeks including BSU assignments and | was able to stay on track and complete
these tasks within a timely matter. Aspects that will entail my further growth include communication
with other employees, organization, problem solving, and self-management.
January 20163. Which experiences in this rotation were most beneficial?
| think that the most beneficial experience was working with the tray passers, call center, and
kitchen. | got to see how a patient orders their food, how it gets delivered to them, and how itis made.
‘When | am in my clinical rotation, | can understand what goes on behind the scenes and what it takes to
produce a great meal within the patients’ specific diet. | also think that adapting to this new experience
and learning very quickly will also be very beneficial to my career.
4, What suggestions do you have to strengthen the experiences for this rotation?
| think that each supervisor should have a detailed lst of what the intern is to do for them. This
will help the intern and supervisor make the most of the time and learn as much as possible. Overall, the
preceptor, Rachel, for this rotation is great and was open to any questions and was always there for
help. Also, al of the people at Reid Health are extremely nice and anyone is willing to help or show you
what to do.
5, Do you have any concerns at this time?
| do not have any concerns.
