forma dispersa a 50 y 60C.
ABSTRACT
esults concerning the oxidation of sodium tellurite in alkaline media are presented in this work. The
effects of stirring rate, amount of oxidation reagent (H2O2), temperature and addition of NaOH on the
reaction extent, and characteristics of the product were investigated. Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy, X-Ray
Diffraction and Scanning Electron Microscopy were used in this study. Our results indicate that the reaction
extent increases with increasing stirring rate up to 750 RPM approximately. The amount of oxidation reagent
was found to be the most important factor since the reaction extent increases from 10% when using 6 mL/L
up to 95% when 20 mL/L of H2O2 were used. Although a maximum reaction extent was observed at 40C and
using small amounts of H2O2, a higher purity of the Na2TeO4 product was obtained at 60C, as revealed by the
X-Ray Diffraction results. Addition of NaOH only promoted a small increase of the reaction extent. Finally,
the reaction product was found to be constituted by hexagonal particles, agglomerated at 30 and 40C and
dispersed at 50 and 60C.
