Course Description:
A study of the economic, social, political, and cultural development of the
Philippines. Emphasizes the relevant and recurring issues in Philippine history and
studies the serious problems that confront the country.

To provide a comprehensive review of the history of the Philippines from prehistory to 1898.
To provide a preliminary survey of issues in the 20 th and 21st century.
To understand the importance of Philippine history in order to inculcate a sense
of nationalism among the students.
To appreciate the roles of the various social classes, the civil society and other
important participants in Philippine history.
To develop critical analysis in the study of Philippine history and its impact on the
economic, social, political and cultural development of the Philippines at present and
amidst global developments.
Methodology/Strategy:
The teaching methodology to be used is a combination of the usual classroom
environment using multi-media aided lectures, film viewing and guided discursive
discussions between the students; e-learning environment with the use of digitized and
electronic information available online and CDs in the market; and experiential learning
environment through methods like observing participation, immersion and field trip.
