Background: Aedes aegypti mosquito is the primary vector of parasitic diseases,
such as dengue fever. There are 156 086 cases of dengue fever or DHF (Dengue
Fever Haemorrargic) with 1,358 deaths in 2010. Black cumin has several active
substances, consisting of carvone, fenchone, terpinen-4-ol, limonene, p-cymene,
citronellol, alpha terpineol , flavonoids which can be function as insecticides against
Aedes aegypti.
Objective: To prove black cumin seeds extract (Nigella sativa L.) by the spray
method has a quick knockdown effect on the mosquito Aedes aegypti.
Methods: This study used the experiment design by using Post Test Only Control.
The concentration of black cumin seeds extract is used is 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%
with distilled water as a negative control. Analysis of the data by using correlation
and multivariate linear regression.
Results: Of the non-parametric Spearman test P value <0.05 indicates a strong
correlation between increased concentrations of the extract (treatment group) versus
time knockdown black cumin seeds extract (Nigella sativa L.) with the strength of
correlation -0.70 or 70%. Results of linear regression test was not obtained extract
concentration variables to explain a knockdown.
Conclusion: black cumin seed extract has the effect of quick knockdown against
Aedes aegypti.
Keywords: black cumin seeds extract (Nigella sativa L.), Aedes aegypti, KT50
