Dear Matilde Aide Perez Aguilar:

I am emailing with an exciting update from the University of Oregon (UO) American English
Institute (AEI) eLearning, a unit of the College of Arts and Sciences.
We have developed and are implementing a new set of 4-week massive online open courses
(MOOCs).
We would love to have your support and assistance in sharing the information on these new
opportunities with educators and English language learners in your area. I have a pdf flier I am
happy to share with you.
The MOOCs are free of charge. Registration begins April 18th. Course dates are May 16th through
June 10th. Successful participants will be able to download and print a certificate of participation.

The three course choices are:


1) Creating Engaging Environments for English Language Classrooms
This course provides English language teachers with methods and strategies to help their students
be more engaged and focused, thus learning more effectively. Topics include classroom
management, motivating students through active learning and differentiating instruction, and
applying project-based learning to achieve goals they wish to achieve.
2) English for Nurses: A Language Learning Community
This course is designed for English language learners who are working or studying in the field of
Nursing. The purpose of this course is to help improve English for use in the workplace, increase
confidence when using English, and connect with and learn from professionals and peers around
the world.
3) Tell Your Story in English: Reading & Writing Skills for English Language Learners
This course helps teens and young adults develop reading and writing skills through story telling.
They can read interesting stories, join others in online discussions, do fun language activities, write
stories to share with friends around the world.

We are also offering some new fee-based services to accompany the courses, completely
optional, including:

Services: Synchronous (real-time with Skype): one hour per session, 4 sessions minimum; available
for individuals or in small groups. Improve your communication skills and have fun talking with a
trained native English speaker from AEI Tutoring Services:

-- Personal Faculty Advisors
Services: Weekly advisory sessions on course assignments and projects (may be asynchronous or
synchronous); available to individuals, in small groups (3-5), or in a cohort (15-25 participants per
cohort). Get the personal attention you deserve in your course from a fully credentialed UO AEI
Faculty Advisor:

AEI is an accredited program and all faculty hold Masters or Doctoral degrees in Applied Linguistics
or a closely related field.
Participants may choose to participate in the fee-based services on their own with a quick and
easy online pay system, or you are welcome to sponsor small groups or cohorts through our office
