HIGHLIGHTS OF MAY 27 BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING

y General Manager John Korhonen reported that lab results on soil and water tests show that levels of heavy metals in the current and
previous main lake dredging spoils at Tufton Lake are within low to normal levels and pose no more danger than native soil.
y Added or amended eight items on the Strategic Plan for future funding consideration. More will be published about the Plan in the
coming weeks.
y Established an ad hoc committee for the Community Fishing Pier to assist with planning, acquisition of materials and construction of
the pier.
y Appointed Nat Alperin to the Safety & Security Committee.
y Deferred to June proposals to 1) approve resolutions to open a Lake Reserve (investment) Account; 2) adopt amendments to Policy
Manual (PM) 13.03, ECC Construction and Property Maintenance Requirements, related to fencing and animal barriers; 3) amend PM
16.17, Solicitation & Contract Review Committee Charter, to clarify committee membership of the staff Contracts Administration; 4)
accept the Independent Auditor’s Report on LMOA 2009 financial statements.

SLICE GATE USERS, PLEASE BE ALERT: Reconstruction of the barcode entry system is nearly finished. The new electronics have
been installed and additional work is being done at this time. According to Police Chief Tom Boisvert, the barcode entry should be back
in operation shortly.

NEW TRASH/RECYCLING COLLECTION BEGINS TUESDAY: SDI has delivered new brown containers for residents’ use beginning
on June 1. There will be no trash pick up on Memorial Day, so the regular schedule will be delayed one day for the entire week, ending
with Friday pickup on Saturday.
SIMPLIFICATION: There still seems to be confusion about the single container system. Very simply, anything that is clearly garbage
(including but not limited to kitchen waste, trash from bathrooms, baby’s room, yard waste, etc.) should be secured in a separate bag(s)
to prevent contamination of recyclables. Anything that is potentially recyclable, including paper, cardboard, glass, metal and plastics,
can be placed directly into the container.

PROXY VOTING HAS BEGUN: The Notice of the 38th Annual Meeting of LMOA Members was mailed to property owners on May
26. The 20-page booklet with blue cover contains information to help members decide who they want to help lead the community for
the next three years and information on the Board proposal to increase member contributions to reserves. A proxy for advance voting is
included on page 18, and the two envelopes needed for proxy voting are tucked into the fold. Please follow the instructions on page 19
to be sure your vote will be counted. The Election Committee requests that members vote by proxy to expedite the election process.
Proxy voting deadline is 5PM, Friday, June 18. Members must be in good standing for their votes to count. Members who have
outstanding balances without an approved payment are urged to contact the Business office for resolution before they vote.

BOAT REGISTRATIONS TO BE CHECKED: All watercraft using the lake must be registered and display a current sticker. LMOA
Staff will be cruising the lake after Memorial Day to check for current registration stickers. If you have not yet registered your boat (of
any size), do so immediately at the Marina to avoid penalties.

FOR YOUR SAFETY: The Lake Preservation Committee reminds residents that contamination of the lake can occur at any time after
heavy rains. Please protect your own health – avoid lake water contact for 24 to 48 hours after heavy rain or until any posted
restrictions have been lifted. Check for alerts at the beaches and the LMOA information resources on cable TV channels 10 (977) and
14 (978) and the LMOA website at www.lmoa.org.
LMOA IS ON FACEBOOK: Now Facebook subscribers can catch highlights of what’s going on at the Lake, including links to recent
Friday Flyers, on Facebook. Look for Lake Monticello Owners’ Association on www.facebook.com/.

MEMORIAL DAY SCHEDULE: The Administration and ECC Offices will be closed on Memorial Day, Mon., May 31. There will be no
trash collection that day.

FISHING PIER FUNDRAISING UPDATE: As of May 26, 73% of the estimated $25,000 needed to build the Community Fishing Pier
at Tufton Lake has been raised. The recent Pier Joy benefit dinner attracted 110 guests and raised $3,200 for the project. The new
total of money on hand is $18,325.

CELEBRATING THE LAKE MONTICELLO SPIRIT of the Rivanna Lions Club for donating $1,000 toward construction of the

purpose of attracting any type of wild animals, specifically deer, ducks and geese, within Lake Monticello is prohibited. The only
permitted exception is food for [other] birds.”
