Description:

HEMPADUR 15600 is a two-component, amine adduct cured pure epoxy paint with excellent adhesion
to steel, resistance to crude oil and most refined oil products.

Recommended use:

As a lining for cargo oil tanks of crude oil tankers to be coated according to IMO-PSPC requirements
(Resolution MSC.288(87)). Also suitable as lining for a wide range of cargo tanks of product tankers as
well as tank lining for grey/black water, brine, drilling mud, fish (RSW) tanks etc.
Can also be used in ballast tanks to be coated according to IMO-PSPC requirements (Resolution MSC.
215(82)).

SURFACE PREPARATION:

New steel: Remove oil and grease etc. thoroughly with suitable detergent. Remove salts and other
contaminants by high pressure fresh water cleaning. Abrasive blasting to minimum Sa 2 (ISO 8501-1:
2007) with a surface profile equivalent to Rugotest No. 3, min. N9a, or ISO Comparator Medium (G).
Maintenance: Remove oil and grease etc. thoroughly with suitable detergent. Remove salts and other
contaminants by high pressure fresh water cleaning. Remove all rust and loose material by wet or dry
abrasive blasting or power tool cleaning. Other degrees of cleaning including wet methods like ultrahigh-pressure-water-jetting (UHPWJ) and blasting with mixtures of grit and water may be relevant
according to Hempel-specification. Remove water, any residual blasting material and other debris.
Ballast tanks, crude oil tanks, grey/black water tanks, cargo tanks: See separate APPLICATION
INSTRUCTIONS.

APPLICATION CONDITIONS:

Use only where application and curing can proceed at temperatures above: - 5/23F. The temperature
of the paint itself should be above: 15C/59F. Apply only on a dry and clean surface with a
temperature above the dew point to avoid condensation. In confined spaces provide adequate
ventilation during application and drying.

PRECEDING COAT:

The mixed paint may advantageously be pre-reacted for 10-20 minutes before spray application at steel
temperatures below: 15C/59F. Longer pre-reaction times will be needed at lower temperatures.
May be specified in another film thickness than indicated depending on purpose and area of use. This
will alter spreading rate and may influence drying time and overcoating interval. Normal range is:
100-200 micron/4-8 mils. For ballast tanks and cargo oil tanks at newbuilding stage minimum specified
dft is: 320 micron/12 mils. Typical newbuilding PSPC specifications: 2 x 160 micron/ 2 x 6.4 mils or 2 x
110 micron + 1 x 100 micron / 2 x 4.4 mils + 1 x 4 mils. Reference is made to separate APPLICATION
INSTRUCTIONS.

Note:

Keep thinning at absolute minimum. Do not dilute the components separately - only the mixture.
If the maximum overcoating interval is exceeded, roughening of the surface is necessary to ensure
intercoat adhesion.
