Specifications for DIESEL GENERATOR
The diesel generator sets, accessories and control panel shall comply with relevant BS/ IS
or other internationally accepted standards including the following:

SCOPE OF SUPPLY
D.G. SET SUPPLY 2 nos. as mentioned below
1. 625 KVA and
2. 250 KVA.
The scope of D.G. set supply shall include:
1. Diesel engine suitable to operate on HSD, Radiator cooled with necessary fan,
electronic governor & Power module, electric start complete with all accessories.
2. Permanent Magnet (not required if self excited), Brushless alternator directly coupled to
diesel engine pre- aligned in shop.
3. Automatic Voltage Regulator.
4. Complete starting arrangement, including 2 nos. batteries & charger.
5. Common base frame & Foundation bolts (if required) etc.
6. Oil pumps for transferring to day tank. (Separate Day Tank not required to be supplied
within this scope)
7. Engine cooling & Lubrication system.
8. Engine air filtering system.
9. Exhaust silencer package with flexible coupling and thermal insulation.
10. Set of GI pipes, Valves, strainers, unloading hose pipes as required.
11. All lubricants, consumables, touch up paints etc. for first filing, testing &
commissioning at site.
12. Day tank of 990 Liters fuel tank. (Separate Fuel Tank not required within this scope of

13. Protection relays (Necessary CTs shall also be included)
14. Adaptor/Terminal box suitable for connecting cables as required.
Note:
1. All the required certificates for smooth operation and functioning from various Govt.
authorities viz. Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) / Central Pollution Control
Board (CPCB) etc. may be obtained by the successful vendor.
SCOPE OF SERVICE:
The vendor shall provide following services:
1. Design, Manufacturing, shop testing including assembly test. Vendor to arrange for
stage inspection which will be witnessed/inspected by NPCL representative.
2. Dispatch, transportation to site.
3. Erection, testing & commissioning with all equipments/materials required for the
purpose.
4. Drawings, data design calculations and printed erection, operation and maintenance
manual.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM DETAILS:
1.
D. G. Set shall be water/ coolant cooled with radiator and shall be continuous
duty. However, the DG sets shall be used as Standby Power Source in case of
emergency situations/power outages.
2. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
Diesel Generator set shall comprise of main equipments specified in this Para. Vendor
shall also include any other accessories or equipments required for the satisfactory
operation of the DG set.
2.1
DIESEL-ENGINE:
Diesel engine shall be of 1500 rpm and shall be rated for continuous duty. Diesel
engine shall be vertical double acting, micro controller based fuel injection system, derated for maximum site ambient temperature specified. The fuel to be used is High
Speed Diesel.
The vendor shall furnish fuel oil consumption for site conditions and shall be
guaranteed. Governor performance and vibrations shall be as per relevant IS
standards. The noise level shall be as per manufacturers standards. The vibration
shall be less than 250 microns. All fittings shall conform to ASTM A105 for sizes 50 NB
and smaller. The water/coolant cooled diesel engine shall suitably rated such that
Alternator shall give defined KVA output after applicable de-rating considering site
conditions. It shall be possible to draw rated output continuously 24 hours each day.
The engine shall be suitable for starting from cold at min. ambient temperature and
necessary accessories like preheated etc. shall be supplied, if required. Engine shall be
the work . However, the work shall be sectionalized with flanged connections as are
necessary for easy isolation for purposes for maintenance of unit.
Independent tanks shall be provided by NPCL (If recommended) for each DG set. The
fuel pump shall pump fuel into the engine through filters. Pressure gauges on either
side of the filters shall be provided to monitor cleanliness of filters.
The day tanks shall be fabricated from minimum 5 mm thick MS plates. The tanks shall
be fitted with low and high level switches. Each level switch shall have 2 NO + 2 NC
output contact. These shall be intrinsically safe and suitable for usage on HSD
systems. Fuel level, Alarms etc. shall be displayed on controller and can be derived on
BMS as well.
2.6 LUBRICATION:
Pressure feed lubrication system by means of engine driven gear type lubricating oil
pump shall be included for lubrication of main and piston bearings, camshaft bushing,
valves trains, etc. For cleaning and filtration both by-pass and fuel flow lubricating oil
filters shall be included. A hand priming pump (if required) shall also be included for
priming of lube oil.
The oil lubrication system shall consist of engine driven pump and fine mesh filters.
Adequately rated lube-oil priming pump shall be provided for DG sets. The pump shall
start periodically to maintain pressure when the DG set is not running. Lube oil
pressure low alarm and subsequent engine trip shall be provided with 2 different set
points.
2.7 COOLING:
Engine shall be water / coolant / cooled with radiator unless otherwise specifically
asked for water shall be circulated by engine driven centrifugal pump around cylinder
liners, Cylinders heads and injector sleeves. Engine coolant shall be cooled by engine
mounted fan assisted radiator of tropical capacity, driven directly from the engine.
Fresh water quantity required for topping up shall be indicated. In case of heat
exchanger cooled option, the heat exchanger shall be mounted on Engine. Pump in
cooling circuit shall be electric driven and heaters shall be provided, if required.
2.8 VENTILATION:
The DG sets shall be installed at the proposed corporate office of NPCL at Knowledge
Park-IV, Greater Noida. Vendor shall plan well ventilated enclosure such that clean
cool and dry air flows over the engine and generator and that temperature rise of the
room/canopy/acoustic enclosure with DG in Operation is within permissible limits of
7O C above ambient temperature.
2.9 EXHAUST:
Exhaust system shall consist of Expansion Bellows, insulated exhaust manifold,
silencers and other misc. piping materials as required, supply of total exhaust system
from engine exhaust outlet flange is in vendors scope.
All M.S. pipes for exhaust lines shall be conforming to relevant IS. The runs forming
part of factory assembly on the engine flexible connections up to exhaust silencer shall

be exclusive of exhaust piping item. The work include necessary cladding of exhaust
pipe work using 50mm thick loosely bound resin (LBR) mattress/mineral wool/
rockwool, density not less than 120 Kg/m3 and aluminium cladding (0.6mm thick) for
the complete portion. The exhaust pipe work includes necessary supports, foundation
(Civil work for foundation is in NPCL scope) etc. to avoid any load & stress on turbo
charger/exhaust piping. The exhaust pipe shall be run along the existing wall of the
building duly clamped/supported on independent structure for which, the design and
drawing for such structure shall be got approved from NPCL.
Exhaust system should create minimum back pressure. Number of bends should be
kept minimum and smooth bends should be used to minimize back pressure. Pipe
sleeve of larger dia should be used while passing the pipe through concrete wall & gap
should be filled with felt lining. Exhaust piping inside the Acoustic Enclosure/Genset
room should be lagged with asbestos rope along with aluminium sheet
cladding/insulated to avoid heat input into room/enclosure.
Exhaust flexible shall have its free length when it is installed. For bigger engines, 2
Flexible bellows can be used. Schedule B MS pipes and long bend /elbows should be
used.
Location of silencer in exhaust system has very definite influence on both reduction of
noise and back pressure imposed on the system. The preferred silencer location is
given in the table below where L is the total length of the total exhaust system
measured from exhaust manifold in meters. Locating the silencer as per optimum
silencer location is not mandatory. For high rise buildings, suitable arrangements may
have to be provided in consultation with acoustic engineers.

Location
The height of the building is approx 27mtrs. From the standard 2.2.1.12.4 of General
Specification of Electrical Works (CPWD), Exhaust Stack Height (H) = Height of building
+ 0.2 (KVA), which is approx 30 mtrs.
The exhaust system shall be so designed to maintain backpressure within permissible
Limits. The exhaust outlet shall be outside the building and at a height stipulated by
Pollution control board. Necessary information for pollution control board for exhaust
Outlet height shall be obtained by vendor. Construction of complete stack pipe along
with support structure will be in vendors scope. The exhaust piping approachable and
seen lengths shall be provided with proper insulation and aluminum cladding.
3 ENGINE CONTROL ,MONITORING & PROTECTION:
Engine shall be equipped with following control monitoring and protection system:
a) Over speed device for automatic shutdown of engine independent of governor at
speed of 10% above rated speed. The shutdown shall be annunciated in control

panel.
Tachometer shall be provided on engine panel for engine speed indication.
Pressure gauge for lubrication oil shall be provided on engine panel.
Temperature gauge for jacket water shall be provided on engine panel.
For following condition an alarm and trip indication shall be given on
control panel:
-Lube oil Pressure
-Water Temperature
-Over speed
The engine shall be equipped with electric shut down valves.
All the inputs/outputs must be available on controller and can be derived on BMS thru
Modbus/Bacnet.

COUPLING:
The engine and the alternator shall be coupled with a fully flexible power coupling
with suitable coupling guard. Arrangements shall ensure constant alignment and ease

of Maintenance.
3.5 MISC. EQUIPMENTS:
All necessary misc. material/ equipment comprising of bearing (base) Plates and
shims for setting up the DG set foundation, foundation bolts, nuts, washers, brackets,
piping supports and any other necessary materials shall be provided. The base frame
shall be provided with lifting facility and predrilled foundation holes. Anti-vibrating
pads shall be provided on the base plates.
4 ALTERNATOR:
a) The alternator design shall meet the Rated output KVA, at 415V with voltage
variation +/-5% rated voltage, 0.8 P.F. 3 Phase, 4 wire, 50Hz AC.
b) The alternator shall be mounted on a common base frame together with the engine.
c) Enclosure: SPDP with Degree of protection IP-23, Self Ventilated air cooled at 45 Deg
Celsius Ambient Temperature.
d) The insulation shall be class-F/H (complying within NEMA class), the windings and
overhangs shall be suitably braced to withstand the short circuit forces at rated
load.
e) Voltage regulation +/- 1%.
f) Overload duration/Capacity : 10% for one hour in every 12 hours of continuous use
and 50% overload for 15 seconds.
g) Electronic type AVR.
h) Anti-friction bearings with Grease lubrication.
i)Conforming to all standards IS 4722 & IEC:34 as amended upto date.
j) The line and neutral ends of the windings shall be connected to six terminals
mounted on insulated base of non-hygroscopic and fire proof materials. Suitable
clamping and terminating arrangements for cables shall be provided. Alternator shall
be star connected and star point (Neutral) shall be brought out into a terminal box
on alternator for connection to earth. All parts and accessories shall be suitable to
withstand stresses due to over speed /over load/short circuit conditions specified.
The alternator shall be complete with following:
- Suitable terminal boxes for connecting cable with necessary extension of box & bus
bar arrangement.
-Space heaters if required only due to atmospheric conditions. These shall be wired up
to separate terminal box.
-Lifting hooks.
-Earthings terminals -2 Nos for body earth.
-Rating plate.
k)
Separate earthing points (2 nos.) shall be provided for body earth and star point
(Neutral) shall be brought out into a terminal box on alternator for connection to
earth.
l)
The class of insulation of stator and rotor winding shall be ' H ' (Complying NEMA
class). The temperature rise of the windings shall be limited to class H temperature
rise.

m)
The alternator shall be brushless type and shall be self/separately excited, selfregulated having static excitation facility. The exciter unit to be mounted on the
control panel or on the alternator assembly. The rectifier shall be suitable for
operation at high ambient temperature at site
n)
Temperature scanner shall be provided in control panel for scaling the winding and
bearing temperature. The alternator shall be provided with minimum of 6 RTD's (2
per/phase ) and 2 bearing RTD's (NDE & DE end). The RTD's shall be duplex type.
o)
The Alternator shall be capable of withstanding 3 phase short circuit at the alternator
terminals for 3 seconds when operated at rated KVA and power factor with 10 %
overvoltage and with rated excitation.
p)
The Generator will be required to supply power to system like Lighting systems,
Motor-Pump unit, Air-conditioners, UPS systems, and other overloads.
q)
The Generator control shall be interfaced with BMS system.
r)
The system shall be provided with 3 sets of current transformers of 15P10 accuracy
for protection and 15VA class-I for metering. The generator shall be provided with 2
Nos. over-voltage relays, 2 Nos. reverse-power relays and 2 Nos. under-voltage relays.
The generator shall be provided with suitable protection against differential (For
625KVA Only), overload and earth fault, over voltage, under voltage etc for both
rating DG sets i.e. 625KVA as well as 250KVA DG sets.
s)
Anti condensation heaters shall be fitted. The terminals shall be brought out in a
separate terminal box.
t)
The rating of space heater shall be such as to maintain temperature of the winding
3C above ambient temperature.
u)
The acoustic enclosure shall conform to degree of protection IP 23, IP54, IP55, IP56
and other applicable standards.
v)
Necessary terminal box suitable for cable connection shall be provided with
Alternator.
4.4 EXCITATION SYSTEM:
The alternator shall be brushless type and shall be self/separately excited, selfregulated having static excitation facility. The exciter unit to be mounted on the
control panel or on the alternator assembly. The rectifier shall be suitable for operation
at high ambient temperature at site
4.5 VOLTAGE REGULATOR:
Automatic solid-state voltage regulator shall be provided. The voltage regulator shall
be complete with cross current compensation, voltage setting device and all
accessories required for successful operation.
5 LOCAL CONTROL PANEL:
5.1 CONSTRUCTION :
The panels shall be free standing, floor mounting compartmentalized cubicle type
panels with framed structure and bottom channel frame of suitable section. The
frame structure shall be rolled/folded sheet section of 2.0 mm thick sheet. Partitions
shall be 1.6mm thick. Doors and gland plates shall be 2.0 mm thick. The panel shall
be dust and vermin proof with neoprene gasketing. All doors shall be provided with

7 MANUAL MODE:
In this mode, operator shall manually start the engine from local panel of engine after
carrying out necessary initial steps, the operator shall close the outgoing circuit breaker
after the voltage builds up to rated value.
8 ENGINE PANEL:
On this panel annunciation for following unhealthy condition shall be
provided:
-Lube oil pressure
-Water temperature

ACOUSTIC ENCLOSURE:
The acoustic system design shall ensure a noise level of not more than 75dBA at a
distance 1 m from the exterior wall of the DG enclosure. The acoustic enclosure shall
be suitable for outdoor mounting.
Vendor to furnish the details along with the offer. The acoustic enclosure shall comply
with the latest regulation of central government as well as state government.

OPERATIONS ENVISAGED:
For whole building 1 Nos. 625 KVA and 1 No. 250 KVA DG sets will supply emergency
power. The DG sets can be operated thru Local Control Panel (DG Control Panel). These
panels will be complete with power and control circuits. The automation is through
PLC / BMS controls. The generator supplier shall provide all required input / output
digital or analogue to be interfaced with the PLC I BMS with Modbus/Bacnet. Supplier to
take note of the same Bus duct/ Cables (power & control) from DG sets up to DG
control panel terminations of these cables shall be done by Vendor including
termination kits and etc.
The DG Panel will have hooter and window arrangements for audio-visual alarms on
fault conditions and overload conditions.
Exhaust piping will be done by DG vendor & as per PCB norms.
DG vendor shall also include design, construction of Chimney, Ventilation
ducts with all accessories.

PERFORMANCE GUARANTEE:
The complete DG set shall be guaranteed for proper design, workmanship and material
of construction of all fabricated and bought out items to be supplied by Vendor. Vendor
shall guarantee following parameters for site conditions:1. Fuel oil consumption
2. Lube oil consumption
3. Noise level
4. Vibrations
5. DG set efficiency
The engine as well as alternator shall be guaranteed for a trouble-free operation for a
period of 24 months from the date of commissioning.

TRAINING:
Vendor shall train client's operating personnel at his works or at site and provide
operational assistance (Whenever required by the customer) at least for a period of 15
days free of cost.
