The aluminium hardtop in body colour gives the Convertible a

in conjunction with the matching BMW base support system.
3 Universal lift and adapter
The universal lift and matching adapter enable a single person

The longitudinal position, seat height, seat angle and thigh
support are individually adjustable, while raised side bolsters
keep the occupants in their seat even when cornering.

1-3 Leather trims

In addition to meticulous tanning, exceptional suppleness is a
very important quality of the leather trims. The front seats, the
rear seat bench, the headrests and as an additional option
the centre armrests, are upholstered with high-quality, handstitched leather. Available in classical Unicolor leather trim
(see p. 34, Fig. 1) or Bicolor leather trim (Fig. 1-3), with the
central seat panels and headrests offering a colour contrast to
the side bolsters.

Depending on the model, the door linings are also available in

4-5 Seat covers

9 Storage compartment with roller cover
This compartment, to which a coin box or cassette box can be
added, can be closed with a roller cover.
10 Drinks holders
In the centre console. Different combinations of drinks holders
and storage options are available. These include drinks holders
with a cassette box (Fig. 10) or with a coin box (not shown).

1+2 Solar ventilation

Six fans in the glass slide/tilt sunroof provide a pleasant in-car
balance of air and temperature. The fans are powered by solar
panels, reducing the strain on the car battery. Solar ventilation
can be used as independent ventilation when the car is parked,
reducing interior temperature by 15 to 20C, or as auxiliary heating when the car is moving.

3 Automatic climate control

Ensures that the preferred in-car climate is reached as quickly
as possible and maintains a preselected temperature, which
can be set in increments of 0.5C.

6 Independent heating/independent ventilation

Generates comfortable warmth inside the vehicle before you
start a journey in the winter months. The engine is protected,
and fuel consumption reduced, by the preheated cooling circuit during the startup phase. For some model variants, independent ventilation is also available, providing a signicantly
more pleasant climate by exchanging the heated air before the
car is driven. Can be activated via the multifunction clock,
remote control or ThermoCall.

4+5 Sun screen

Electrically and manually operated rear window roller blinds
(Fig. 4) are available for the BMW 3 Series, as is a sun screen
for the side windows (Fig. 5).

3 BMW DVD system
The BMW DVD system allows you to play DVDs as well as audio
CDs and MP3 les from disc. Devices such as games consoles
and video cameras can also be easily connected via the Chinch
input. The console is securely mounted in the roof lining of the
vehicle and is positioned level with the drivers and front passenger seats. The monitor is non-reective from every angle and provides a brilliant picture. An infrared remote control and two sets
of cordless stereo headphones are supplied with the system.

1 Professional navigation system

With 16:9 on-board monitor. Uses GPS to direct you swiftly and
accurately to your destination. A splitscreen function enables
you to display the route map in different scales and direction
arrows simultaneously. Guidance by means of voice instructions
is possible at all times.The dynamic route guidance system suggests an alternative route when the radio receives information
on trafc congestion via TMC.
Digital roadmaps (not shown)
The computer uses digital roadmaps to work out the most suitable route in no time at all. Available as a DVD, CD or CD set in
eight country versions.

2 TV function
Enables both analogue and digital (DVB-T) TV programmes to
be watched in brilliant picture quality. This function can only be
used when the car is stationary. It is operated via the on-board
monitor.

1 Bluetooth hands-free kit

Suitable for most Nokia, Motorola and Sony Ericsson mobile
phones. Includes a phone-specic and easily interchangeable
snap-in adapter, which allows drivers to make calls with their
mobiles while driving. The phone is also recharged at the same
time. Includes an external aerial which improves reception, and
ensures that radiation is dissipated outside of the car.

2 Universal hands-free kit

Suitable for use with mobile phones made by Motorola, Nokia
and Sony Ericsson. An easily interchangeable cradle enables
drivers to make calls from their mobile phone while driving, via
the hands-free kit. The phone is automatically recharged when
it is plugged in. The telephone console is easy to access and
located in the drivers eld of vision, so the keypad of the phone
can be used without difculty. Voice output is through the cars
loudspeakers.
3 iPod interface
Enjoy all your favourite music on the road. The interface connects the iPod directly to your vehicles audio system, allowing
you to select ve individual playlists as well as skip track and
shufe functions by quickly and easily using the BMW radio
or the multifunction steering wheel. The iPod is stored securely
in the glovebox and the battery is charged during playback
through the vehicles electrical system.

1+2 BMW roof box 350

Capacity: approx. 350 l. L x W x H: 140 x 90 x 39 cm. Loading is
convenient and easy, thanks to an innovative system (Fig. 2)
that allows it to be opened from both sides. With anti-theft triple

3 Universal lift and adapter for roof boxes
The simple way to t and remove all BMW roof boxes. Helps to
save space by storing the roof box under the garage roof.

4 Ski and snowboard holder, lockable

Suitable for either two skis and two snowboards, or up to six
pairs of skis. Also has space for ski poles.

8 BMW base support system

Maximum permissible roof load: 75 kg. The base support arms
are made of high-strength aluminium tubing. The BMW base
support system with anti-theft locks complies with the most
stringent safety requirements. It is also available for cars with a
roof railing (see p. 46).

1 Bicycle lift
Allows a bicycle to be effortlessly lifted onto the roof rack and
removed again. Suitable for different bicycle sizes.

2 Racing cycle holder, lockable

Suitable for racing cycles with quick-release skewers on the
front wheel. A holder for securing the front wheel to the base
support system is also available.
3 Touring cycle holder, lockable
A robust attachment for transporting a bicycle with a frame
diameter of 25 to 80 mm, also suitable for mountain bikes. A
single locking set for tting up to four touring cycle holders
on the base support system is also available.
Trailer tow hitch (not shown)
Depending on the model, the trailer tow hitch is approved for
towing trailer weights of up to 2,275 kg (with a nose weight of
up to 75 kg). Available with xed or removable tow ball. When
the tow ball is removed, the trailer tow hitch is not visible.

4 Bicycle holder for the trailer tow hitch, lockable

The bicycle holder and bicycles are secured against theft. For
transporting one or two bicycles. An extension set for a third
bicycle is available.

5 Loading sill protective mat

The padded mat is made of an anti-slip material, and it can be
folded out over the loading sill as required. It protects the loading
sill from damage during loading/unloading of the vehicle. When
folded out, it provides a place to sit.
6 Anti-slip mat
Prevents objects from sliding around.

This textile bag with a removable plastic liner can be attached

Safety is a reassuring feeling. You will sense this straight away

with the accessories for the BMW 3 Series.

4 BMW Junior Seat II-III
Suitable for children weighing 15 to 36 kg (aged approx. 3 to
12 years). The seat can be quickly and easily secured in place
with the three-point belt. The height of the seat and position
of the headrest and side bolsters are manually adjustable, and
the seat offers excellent lateral support. The recline position
makes the BMW junior seat II-III ideal for long journeys, and the
removable cover is machine-washable. A rucksack to carry the
seat when not in use is available separately.

BMW child seats are upholstered in breathable fabric,

and offer outstanding comfort, safety and ease of use.
They are available in a choice of a Formula 1 design or
various colours, embroidered with the BMW logo.
1 BMW baby seat 0+, with/without ISOFIX
Designed for children weighing between 3 and 13 kg (aged up
to around 18 months). A seat reducer is also available. The baby
seat shell is mounted either on the front passenger seat (provided the airbag is deactivated), or facing away from the direction of travel on the rear seat. It can easily be detached from the
reboard frame, so it can be used separately as a carrycot. With
detachable sun screen.

2+3 BMW Junior Seat I-II, with/without ISOFIX

Suitable for children weighing from 9 to 25 kg (aged approx. 9
months to 7 years). This seat features a height-adjustable seat

function is permitted for children weighing up to 18 kg. Children weighing more than this should be secured without the
restraint cushion, using the seat belt (Fig. 3).

1+3 Additional xenon main beam headlights

Throw a bright, far-reaching and uniform beam onto the road
and the edge of the road. Suitable for models without bi-xenon
headlights. The additional xenon main beam headlights replace
the fog lights.
2+3 Bi-xenon headlights for BMW 3 Series models
manufactured from September 2001 onwards
Illuminate the road and the edge of the road clearly, evenly and
over a broad area, and feature automatic headlight range adjuster. With powerful long-life bulbs for both for dipped beam
(Fig. 2, blue area in illustration) and main beam headlights
(Fig. 3, blue area in illustration). Only available in conjunction
with the headlight washer system.
2+5 Xenon headlights for BMW 3 Series models
manufactured up to September 2001
Dipped beam headlights with high luminous power and long
service life. Only available in conjunction with the headlight
washer system.

4+7 Turning light

An additional halogen headlight set in the front headlight unit
which supplements the main headlights at crossroads or when
cornering to provide better illumination. Trafc situations and
potential dangers can be detected earlier thanks to this innovative light technology.
Fog lights (not shown)
Throw a wider beam onto the road and also reduce backglare.

6 Headlight washer system

Clean headlights ensure that the road is optimally illuminated at
all times.

8 Rear-view mirror
Automatic anti-dazzle function operates when light from vehicles travelling behind hits the mirror. With a digital compass,
which indicates the direction in a 45 scale, and with a universal remote control, which activates for example garage door
openers, alarms or door locking systems at the touch of a button. Also available with either the compass or remote control
only.

9 Wing mirrors for trailer towing

Vibration-free thanks to a special holder.
10 Rear View Camera
Ensures maximum safety when reversing. As soon as reverse
gear is selected, the area behind the vehicle is lmed by a 131
wide-angle camera mounted in the luggage compartment lid.
The feed from the camera is shown on the on-board monitor.

11+12 Side View Camera

For safe turning at road junctions with poor visibility. A camera
and a special glass prism record the cross-trafc (see Fig. 11,
blue area in illustration) and show the image on the on-board
monitor. The camera is located in the middle of the car under
the bumper.
Park Distance Control I (not shown)
Makes parking and manoeuvring easier in tight spaces. Four
sensors detect obstacles that are closer than approximately
1.5 m, and an acoustic warning informs drivers of the distance
between the obstacle and the car. The Park Distance Control
sensors are built into the rear bumper.
13 Park Distance Control II
The Park Distance Control II sensors are built into the number
plate holders, and can detect obstacles at a range of approximately 1.5 m. There are two sensors at the front and four at the
rear, making parking and manoeuvring easier. Also available for
front only and rear only.

1 Alarm system
Electronic monitoring system which responds to any unauthorized opening of the doors and engine/luggage compartments
with acoustic and visual alarms. Can be activated and deactivated by remote control.

10 On-board computer
Provides information such as average fuel consumption, range,
average speed, outside temperature, time and date.

2 Dog safety harness

Suitable for securing dogs on the rear bench seats, thereby enhancing passenger protection. A lead can also be secured to a
metal ring. Available in three sizes.

3 Suspension cross-brace
In addition to visually enhancing the engine compartment, the
suspension cross-brace provides extra rigidity in the front area
of the car.

11-13 Car covers
These breathable, washable car covers with BMW lettering are
easy to handle and tailored to the individual model variants. Silver
in colour, the outdoor car cover is heatproof, water- and dirtrepellent, and features several ventilation openings. Available for
the whole car (Fig. 11) or for the windscreen and front windows
only (Fig. 13). The indoor car cover for the the BMW 3 Series
Convertible (Fig. 12) is made of antistatic, easy-stretch material.

Electric rodent protection (not shown)
Works like an electric cattle fence. It has been recognized as the
most effective method of preventing rodent damage.

7 Warning jacket

8 Solarius
Protects the car battery against discharge when the sun shines.
It is placed on the dashboard and connected to the car battery
via the cigarette lighter.
9 Wheel bolt locks
The wheel bolts offer excellent protection against theft, thanks
to a unique design which means they can only be removed with
the special BMW tool that is supplied as part of the package.
