SUBJECT: ADDITION OF ANEROID TO CORRECT EXCESSIVE EXHAUST
SMOKE DURING FREE ACCELERATION TEST
PUMP MODELS AFFECTED:

DB4429-5697 (RE-505619)

In Switzerland certain Renault ET82 tractors, equipped with John Deere 4045T
engines and a DB4-5697 Stanadyne fuel injection pump, may experience excessive
exhaust smoke during government mandated free acceleration testing. At John
Deeres request, Stanadyne has introduced an aneroid kit (P/N 35958) which can be
fitted to the fuel injection pump to correct this condition.
Service
Should a DB4-5697 model pump be received for service with a complaint of failing the
Swiss free acceleration smoke test, install the 35958 aneroid kit as follows:
1. Remove the three screws retaining the governor cover and remove the cover.
2. Using a 20992 Shut-Off Cam removal tool, remove and discard the shut-off shaft
retaining clip. Remove the shut-off shaft.
3. Remove the Electric Shut-Off (E.S.O.) solenoid and housing pressure regulator
from the existing governor cover.
4. Install the E.S.O. as outlined in Service Bulletin 108 in the 22567 governor
cover supplied with the aneroid kit. Replace the o-ring seal on the housing
pressure regulator and install the regulator in the new governor cover. Tighten
to 90-110 in-lbf (10.2-12.4 Nm).
5. Assemble the Shut-off Lever assembly supplied in the aneroid kit using the
R4-R position as outlined in Service Bulletin 164.
6. Install the Shut-off shaft, shut-off cam and governor cover in the pump.
7. Assemble, install and perform initial adjustments to the aneroid as described in
Service Bulletin 225. Position the aneroid in the 6 oclock position as viewed
from the transfer pump end. Specific aneroid adjustment procedures for this
modification are as follows:
Aneroid Adjustment:
a. On the test bench, set the forward adjusting screw to 50 mm3/stk at
1500 erpm.

Aneroid Adjustment (continued):

b. Remove the pump from the test bench. Set the aneroid travel to 0.450
inch 0.025 inch (11.43 mm 0.63 mm) using the rear shut-off screw.
c. Connect the aneroid rod to the lever. Connect a regulated air pressure
source to the aneroid and check the lift off pressure. The lever should lift
off at 3-4 in. HG (1.5-2.0 psi or 10.3-13.7 kPa). If the lever motion requires
more than 4 in. HG (2.0 psi or 13.7 kPa), lengthen the rod. If the lever
motion requires less than 3 in. HG (1.5 psi or 10.3 kPa), shorten the rod.
Full travel should be obtained at 13-15 in. HG (6.4-7.4 psi or 44.1-51.0
kPa).
d. Re-check the response and repeatability.
Warranty
Because this modification is being performed at the request of John Deere, all costs
associated with it are chargeable to the customer. Please do not submit warranty
claim forms to Stanadyne for performing this field modification.
