ABSTRACT

What is kulam? Kulam is a form of folk magic here in the Philippines. Province of
Siquijor and Talalora, Western Samar is popularly known for its original and native
"mangkukulam". It is also exist in province of Samar and Leyte. Kulam is similar to
voodoo of Central America. They are both using dolls as a symbol of their victims. They
are also making potions and antidotes to casts magic spells.

A student of Sapang Palay National High School made a research by asking fellow
students about kulam and if they had an idea about this. 90% of the students did not
believe in kulam. Some of them do not believe in kulam because they had no experienced
about it. Some teachers in Culture and World Religion also interviewed by the student
and they said that they really do believe in kulam.

In this research, it concludes that some teens nowadays does not believe in kulam
but older ones does. This is because of the new generation and influence of science.
These also conclude that people nowadays still believe on term to see is to believe.
This will engage modern individual to research and find out more about kulam.
