Engaging Online Students

Content Module
Sub-topic three is faculty support. Associate Faculty (AF) are the face of the University
for online students. Effectively providing support to students is imperative to impact the
students learning experience. Associate Faculty are required to be present, pleasant, and
professional in their assigned courses while establishing positive relationships with students.
This supportive culture does not happen by accident. There are specific processes and
expectations required from AFs in order to create the ultimate student experience. In this unit
you will learn effective strategies to provide support to students through preparing the course,
completing the Meet Your Instructor section, and announcements. AFs will develop a gamecentric activity to demonstrate the expectations of XYZ University to create a supportive
learning environment. A game-centric activity will allow AFs to explore the Associate Faculty
handbook, as well as other resources, to learn the policies and best practices to support students.
Objectives
At the end of this activity, Associate Faculty will be able to:

Use a technology tool to create a game-centric activity.

Identify policies and best practices for supporting students.
Create a Contact card, including a professional biography and office hours to
engage students.

a supportive learning environment. This will allow AFs become familiar with
policies and best practices. The more they are reviewed, the more they will be
practiced. Use game technology (Quizlet, Jeopardy Labs, Kubbu, Scratch, or one
of your own choice) to create your game.
2. Include at least two graphics/images you feel represents your project.
3. When you have completed your simple game, you will submit it along with a
contact card containing a professional biography and office hours. Including a
photograph of yourself is optional.

Client Services for a financial advisor where I held my Series 6 & 63 Securities Licenses and
Life Insurance License. I also worked for a small manufacturing company managing internal
operations and financial procedures. I joined the XYZ University team in February 2012 as the

Instructional Design team as the Learning Management System & Office Manager. I recently
transitioned to the Instructional Coach role. I am currently working on my Master of Education
degree with an Instructional Design and Technology concentration.
Outside of work, my husband and I are busy raising our Brady Bunch six kids between the two
of us ranging in ages from 5-17! We are so busy being taxi drivers to all their sports football,
lacrosse, swimming, softball and soccer and loving every minute of itit goes by so fast!!
