Intro
The infant government was very weak

Hamilton was not even American
He regarded himself as a prime minister
Was one of the first to encourage trickle down economics
He encouraged that the debt be paid back with interest included
He wanted the federal government to assume the debts of the states

People were big supporters of tariffs on imports

Impact of the Weaklings French Revolution
The French revolution started during washingtons second term
Most Americans encouraged the revolution
Americans renamed streets to support the French
Federalists feared the revolution
Democrats approved the revolution and said aristiocratic heads were cheap in return for
freedom
Washingtons Neutrality
Jeffersonians wanted war with England to back the French
Washington and Hamilton wanted neutrality
Americas navy was bad so it would make no sense to fight a war over the Atlantic.
Some saw the move as an excess of presidential influence
Some Frenchie came into the united States to try to recruit for the army
America still supported the Frech by means of foodstuffs
Embriolments with Britain
Brits stayed near the great lakes
They made lots of money in the fur trade
British provided an Indian buffer to try to stop colonial expansion
The British did not support the natives after Greenville routed them so the native ceded
massive amounts of land to the Americans.
The British openly waged war in the West indies
Jays treaty and Washingtons Farwell
John Jay tried to reason with the Brits
John Jay won no concessions
He had to pay the British back for all the pre revolution debts, but the Brits would give
back the merchantmen
The British refused to leave American soil

The treaty favored the south rather than the North


After Washington left, the first peaceful transfer of power happened

John Adams was a Federalist
John Adams ran against Thomas Jefferson
Adams was short, fat, and tactless
Hamilton tried to manipulate the cabinet as to undermine Johns presidency
Unofficial fighting with France
The French were ticked that the Americans worked with the English, so the French began
to steal the American ships
The French demanded 32 million Florins to talk with the United States
The sick Federalists were almost happy that the French tried to trick the Americans into
paying extra cash
The navy had 3 ships
Adams puts patriotism above party
The British were actually supplying the Americans for war
Feds wanted war, but Jeffersonians wanted peace
The Jefersonians got their peace with France
Without John Adams, the United States would have been unable to purchase Louisiana.
The federalist withch hunt
You had to live in the us for fourteen years to become a citizen
The alien laws wer aimed at undesirable immigrants
The dedition acts stated that anyone who falsely defamed gov officials would be given a
hefty fine
Many people had to stay in jail for what they wrote about
The supreme court was controlled by the feds , so it was impossible for them overturn the
unconstitutional acts
The public supported the acts
The Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions
States have the right to nullify the acts of congrsess
No other states hoped on board
Other states said that it was the people that gave the government power
Federalists versus Democrat republican
The federalists favored rule by the elite rather than rule by the masses
Feds believed that the government should support private enterprises, but nointerfear with
it
The democrat-republicans were mostly poor and they supported Jefferson
Jeffersonians believed the best government is one that governs least
Jeffersonians believed that no class should get special privlages
Jefferson believed that the ignorant did not deserve self government
Jefferson believed landless debtors would act as pawns for the landed elite

Jefferson supported free speech


Jefferson was very pro French
The Feds were pro british
