Before i deliver my speech, Id like to introduce my self, my name is Rara Niken Faza
Anindita. I am a student of school of nursing diponegoro university. Its an honour for me to
be here on this occasion, to give a speech about Holistic care for HIV/AIDs
Ladies and Gentlemen
HIV-AIDS is dangerous and it hasn't got any cure yet. But what is actually HIV-AIDS? We
often confuse to differentiate between HIV and AIDS. HIV and AIDS actually refer to
different things. Human Immunodeficiency Virus or HIV is one type of virus that weakens
the immune system of human body. People who affected by HIV will be vulnerable to disease
because their immune system is weak. While AIDS or Acquired Immune Deficiency
Syndrome is the symptoms and infections caused by damaged immune system as a result of
HIV. HIV refers to the name of an virus and AIDS refers to the name of the symptoms caused
by HIV.

HIV-AIDS have been already existed long time ago before it was recognized by WHO in July
5 1981. HIV-AIDS also was claimed as the deadly disease in history of human life.
According the statistic by Indonesian Health Minisrty during 2014, 22.869 peoples HIV,
1.876 peoples AIDs, and 65% men, with mode of transmission dominated by heterosexual
people. Its always increasing due to no awareness about preventive steps and knowledge of
HIV. Some traditions and customs of such countries have led to practice polygamy, multi-

partner sex, prostitution, which have spread the disease. And less policy implementation to
create awareness and prevention of the disease in this countries.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Based on my experience while clinical praticed in the one of government hospital, there are
many people who affected by HIV/AIDs. Most of them came to hospital with bad condition.
Ini dikarenakan gejala AIDs muncul setelah 10 tahun terinfeksi. Gejala yang biasa muncul
pada pasien HIV/aids adalah demam, BB turun, TBC, sariawan di sekitar mulut, diare parah,
bahkan penurunan kesadaran. Tragisnya, pasien jarang yang mengetahui dirinya mengidap
HIV/AIDs. Biasanya, pasien akan diberikan konseling. Kita berperan penting dalam hal ini,
mengingat peran kita sebagai konselor. Many people are surprised when they learn that they
have been infected with HIV. Some people feel overwhelmed by the changes that they will
need to make in their lives. It is normal to have strong reactions when hefind out HIV
positive, including feelings such as fear, anger, and a sense of being overwhelmed. Often
people feel helpless, sad, and anxious about the illness.
Ladies and gentlemen,
nurses have played a crucial role in caring for individuals infected with HIV. As a caregiver
we know that holistic care is not only about body, but also mind, emotion, spirituality,
relationship, socioculture, and environment. I think its important to do when gives a treatment
for HIV. Memang kebutuhan fisiologi dibutuhkan, namun, yang lebih mereka butuhkan lagi
adalah dukungan psikologis, spiritual dan dukungan keluarga. Pada Saat mereka mengetahui
dirinya terkena HIV/AIDS paSti mengalami tahap berduka, denial, anger, bargaining,
depreSSion, and acceptance. Pada tahap baragining, perawat berperan untuk memberikan
dukungan pSikologiS dan Spiritual. Moreover, understanding a persons spiritual grounding is
crucial to understanding how someone deals with illness, treatment, death, and bereavement.
Addressing the spiritual needs of patients helps to empower them and to facilitate quality
treatment tailored to the specific needs and desires. respect, and that most importantly, care
workers must make themselves available to the patient in order to listen, learn, and
help.Healing also may involve the removal of pathology but, on the other hand, might require
helping the person live and die peacefully with an illness that cannot be cured

Thats all my speech, i do hope my speech will be usefull in our life. Thank you so much for
you attention.
