A 3 Day Course: 15 17 September 2015

Midrand, South Africa

Overhead Line Managers face ever growing challenges to keep their lines
maintained to a high degree of reliability in the African environment.
Reliability of power supply continues to be challenged by environmental factors
which may cause ongoing deterioration of infrastructure. Coupled with this, we
have seen an increase in sabotage and member theft, which has led to unplanned
loss of supply. This, in an environment where much needed generation expansion
has placed greater cost pressures on all other aspects power delivery.
What technology exists to manage these challenges in a cost effective manner?
What is the state of the art in maintenance practices? What are the key trends on
grids felt today will shape the operational practices of
tomorrow? What design practices lead to more reliable, durable
overhead lines?
Over 3 days, a team of 13 experts in the industry will
attempt to provide answers to these
questions, and to provide a solid base for
those in management and practice of
Course pack includes

contributing author in the Overhead Line Maintenance reference book. Jacques will cover Corrosion & Corrosion
Protection in superstructures.
Pierre Marais is a structural and civil engineer specialising in the mechanical design of overhead lines and
foundations, and contributing author in the Overhead Line Maintenance reference book. He will cover Detection
and management of subsurface corrosion, Emergency Restoration, Ground erosion protection and maintenance
techniques.
