Material Databases

1.5

Using the databases of Base Metals, Filler Metals, and Pipe Schedules

Access to the materials databases can done by

1 clicking
on the database icon
in one of the
following fields on any form in WeldOffice WPS
or WPQ Module:
Base metal specification (Base material database)
Base metal P-no. (Base material database)
Base metal G-no. (Base material database)
Filler metal specification (Filler material database)
Filler metal classification (Filler material database)
Filler metal F-number (Filler material database)
Filler metal A-number (Filler material database)
Base metal Size (Pipe schedule log)
Base metal Sch. (Pipe schedule log)
Base metal Thick. (Pipe schedule log)
Base metal Dia. (Pipe schedule log)
The filler and base metal databases contain over
2 2000
ASME and AWS materials each. To easily
locate the desired material, use one of the
following Sorting/Filtering methods:

A Several fields are provided on the left side of

these databases to allow filtering of the data.

From one or more of these fields, select known
variables (such as P# or SFA). This will
narrow the database down allowing easier
location of the desired materials.

B Clicking on the header of any column will sort

the materials alphabetically by that column.
Use this feature to quickly scroll through all
displayed materials.

The Filler material database offers even more

3 filtering
capabilities. Based on the base materials
and process specified on the record (P1 and P8
with GTAW in this example) the database has
offered two additional filtering buttons. The first
one allows filtering the database to show only
those filler metals possible to weld with GTAW and
P1 while the second button shows only those filler
metals possible to weld with GTAW and P8.
The Pipe schedule log offers an easy to read
4 matrix
for finding the desired pipe size and
schedule. Locate the diameter in the left hand
column and then move to the right to find the
proper schedule.
The Pipe schedule log also offers three different
tables for Carbon steel, Stainless steel, and Tube
gauge/thickness.
When the desired material has been located in
5 any
one of these databases, click on the material
to select it and then press the Accept button in
the lower right corner. This will input all
associated data in the appropriate fields on the
record.

3 dynamically
based on the information that you enter.
For example, the Post Weld Heat Treat section does not
appear until you select With PWHT.
WeldOffice is equipped with a comprehensive
4 database
of typical joint details already drawn for you.

For more information on selecting sketches refer to

page 1.4 Drawings & Sketches
As you select a welding process, the form will grow
5 supplying
you with the required fields specific to the

calculates Area and Ultimate Unit

Stress for you. Note: If the calculated

Ultimate unit stress is below the specified
requirements for the base metals on page

one, WeldOffice will prompt you with a

Code Checking warning after selecting the
Type of failure and location.

Bend test information is already entered

12 for
you. Based on the information
entered on page one, WeldOffice s Code
Checking automatically specifies the
required testing.
entering Toughness Test
13 When
information, enter ONLY the top line of
data. When the first line is completed,
click the cursor in the Specimen Number

field on the second line. WeldOffice

automatically replicates the test
information from the previous line.
For entering a Welders name, normally
14 you
would be able to simply select a
name from your own database of
welders. But unless you have already
entered a welders profile, you can enter
this information manually or just leave
this box blank.

15 Printing this PQR:

To print this record, go to the top of the
screen and click on File. Select the
second print option which will say
something like Print
Unassigned ASME PQR 00001 .

16 Instantly create a WPS from this PQR:

Now that you are finished creating this
PQR, WeldOffice can automatically create
a WPS using the data on this record. To do
this, go to the top of the screen and click on
File / Save As New . Then select WPS.
WeldOffice will then take all applicable
data from this PQR and place it on the
WPS. Additionally, notice how the Code
Checking supplies you with even more data
straight out of the code such as the
Thickness and Diameter ranges qualified.

2.3

Welding Procedure Specification

C-spec
P.O. Box 27604, Concord, CA 94527, (888)673-9777

On the Tool Bar, click on the small drop-down

1 arrow
next to the New icon.

C-spec WeldOffice Software

Select ASME IX WPS.

C-spec

For automatic creation of a WPS, please

see item 16 on page 2.2.
Begin filling out the record by entering the
2 header
information. While filling out this
record, make sure to take advantage of the
drop-down menus
and databases
rather than typing the information manually.
Take notice of the check marks in the Scope
3 section
of this example. The dynamic forms

in WeldOffice use these marks to determine

which fields are needed. For example, when
With PWHT is not selected, WeldOffice will
not require data to be entered for PWHT.

When specifying the filler metal, remember to

4 select
it from the Filler Material Database
instead of manually typing the information.
To do this, place the cursor in the SFA field
and click on the database icon
. Locate
and select the desired filler metal(s) and then
press the Accept button. Notice that
WeldOffice enters the proper SFA,
Classification, F and A numbers
automatically.
Note: Multiple filler metal classifications may
be specified. Everything that is selected will
appear in the Notes section on page 2.
WeldOffice allows you to specify up to three
5 welding
processes. Additionally, you can also

specify up to five filler metal sizes for each

process. To do this, click inside the Filler
metal size field and then locate the Add
Column
icon on the Tool Bar at the top of
the screen. Click this icon and watch how
this field splits with each click. This will also
split all other applicable fields allowing
specific data to be entered for each filler
metal size.
Notice that there are no Gas fields available
6 for
SMAW. This is another feature of the

dynamic forms. WeldOffice prevents entry of

non-relevant information and minimizes
potential introduction of errors.

C-spec WeldOffice Software

To enter data into the second

page of the WPS, click on the tab
at the top of the page entitled
WPS - Page Two.

WeldOffice is equipped with a

8 comprehensive
database of

typical joint details already drawn

for you. For more information on
these sketches refer to page
1.4 Drawings & Sketches .

To specify the applicable preheat

9 for
the materials entered on page
one, simply select up to four
standards from WeldOffices dropdown lists and the Code Checking
will supply the appropriate data.

10Printing this WPS:

When you are ready to print this

record, go to the top of the screen
and click on File . Then select
the second print option which will
say something like Print
Unassigned ASME WPS 00001.

Automatically create a WPS

11 from
a PQR:
Another way to create a WPS is
to have WeldOffice automatically
generate the WPS off of a PQR.
To do this you will need to open a
completed PQR. If you have not
yet made a PQR, please follow
the instruction on page 2.1.
With a PQR opened, go to the top
of the screen and click on
File / Save As New. Then select
WPS. WeldOffice will begin to
take all applicable data from the
PQR and place it on the WPS.
Additionally, notice how the Code
Checking supplies you with even
more data straight out of the code
such as the Thickness and
Diameter ranges qualified.

Expiration Date Maintenance

3.4

Using the Welder Maintenance Log

The Welder Maintenance Log is designed to maintain a continuous history of a welders use of a process. Use the Welder
Maintenance Log to document a welders use of a process and to provide evidence that qualifications have not expired.
Note: These logs are created automatically when a welder is added to the Welder Profile database.
Manual creation of a Welder Maintenance Log is not necessary.

The four items in this example that have a

1 WPQ/WPS
number, were all entered
automatically. These items are provided as
soon as a Welder Performance
Qualification(WPQ) has been entered.

C-specWeldOffice Software

Note: Entries linked to a WPQ can not

be altered or deleted.

All other WML entries need to be entered

2 manually.
In this example, the manually entered
items have a Job reference number
listed. This is to provide evidence or a
reminder of why the item was entered.

that all entries made for a single

3 Notice
process and process type are grouped
together. This grouping allows WeldOffice-WPQ
to calculate the current Expiration date by
adding 6 months to the highest date in the
group.
Note: If a date other than 6 months is
desired, this setting can be changed in
Tools/Options.

To add an entry to the WML, click on the

4 icon
titled Enter new job weld.
This will bring up the Weld log entry details
box.

Fill in the details of the weld log entry and

5 then
press the Accept button. This will
add another entry to the WML.
Note: By default the current date is
automatically entered in the Weld log
entry details box. If back dated entries
are to be entered, the date must be
changed manually.

is never ending. Continue adding as
many line items as needed and WeldOfficeNDE will automatically span your report over
as many pages as necessary.
Based on the number of techniques
5 specified
in the Examination results section
(A,B,C,D), WeldOffice-NDE provides the
proper number of Equipment and
Technique details sections.
In order to cover any type of NDE reporting,
6 the
General Report allows the ability to
customize the Equipment and Technique
details box. There are eight available fields
in this box and each are able to be
assigned names specific to the type of
inspection being reported.
To rename the fields, click on View /
Navigation panel. When it comes up, click
on the third tab entitled Current record
properties . Scroll down until you get to the
section called Report headings. The items
in this section are the titles of the fields in
the Equipment and Technique details
box. To change a title, click on the icon
next to the item. Then type the new name
for that field. Once the changes are
complete, the fields on this current record
will be labeled with the specified names.
To sign this record, simply click your cursor
7 in
the appropriate Signature box. This will
input the name and signature of the person
currently logged in, as well as the current
date.

signatures, see 1.7.2 Security Settings

Storing Source and Film Details

Using the Source and Film profile databases

Open the Source Database by clicking on
1 Tools
/ Radiographic Source Profiles.

This database is used to store

2 information
about the radiographic
sources. Storing sources in this
database will eliminate the need to type
this data more than once and will also
calculate the current curies of any
radiographic source automatically.

To enter a new source, click on the

3 Create
a new source icon.
This will bring the Radiographic source
details window where the new source
details may be entered.

Fill in the details of the new source and

4 then
press the Accept button. This will
add a new source to the database.
Notice that it displays the Present curies
based on the current date.
Additionally, when this source is added to
an RT report, the current curies will be
based on the report date of that specific
record.

To open the Film Database, first exit out

5 of
the Source Database and return to the
main WeldOffice-NDE window.
Then click on Tools / Film Profiles.

As with the Source Database, the Film

6 Database
is used to store commonly
used film in order to prevent typing the
same information twice.

To enter a new film item, click on the icon

7 titled
Create a new film.
This will bring up the Film details box
where the new film details may be
entered.

When the details of the new film have

8 been
entered, press the Accept button.
This will add a new film to this database.
