Scholarship Questions
1. As a first-generation college student, what are some challenges you face that
are different from your peers?
As a first-generation college student, I feel privileged have access to an American
education. My parents moved to the United States so that I can get a formal education
and live a better life. My father works long hours to support our family and help me out
with college loans. I am going to find a summer job so that I can begin repaying my loans
early and incur less debt in the end. At first, it was not easy to adapt to English, but I
pushed myself and learned it quickly. As I am perfecting my English right now, I am
trying to help my parents in learning the language as well. As a first-generation college
student, I want to make my parents proud by succeeding in my studies and in my career.
