*** Assignment: "Landscapes: Nature - Trees" April 11 - 25, 2012

This week: "Landscapes: Nature - Trees". You may not live in a rural area, so you can try a park if you're a city dweller.
Black and white or color will be accepted. As in last week's assignment, people are incidental. They can be in the image,
but are not the subject. Buildings should be at a minimum, emphasis is on the natural. And most important, a tree or
trees must be included in your picture. The tree (or trees) doesn't need to be the main subject, it can just be a
supportive player.
Remember to have a focal point in mind. You don't want the viewer's eyes to be darting all over the place wondering
where to land. And lighting is really important. The golden hours often offer the best times for landscape photography.
The links below do not necessarily have trees in their example images, but the tips they offer still pertain.

As always, rules:

Just a note to new posters: DO

NOT start a new thread for your

post. Please just hit the reply button at the bottom of any
current post and put your image there.

1. Your original image you submit should be taken on or between the 11th to the 25th of April, 2012. Each week as an
assignment closes on the Wednesday, it will be AUTOMATICALLY deemed *CLOSED* after 8am GMT (3AM EST) and
any posts after that time will not be eligible for the assignment competition. Don't wait until the last minute to post!
2. Your post must include "Landscapes: Nature - Trees" as the title or in the text (to show your permission to count it for
the contest) and the date the picture was taken (to show that it is a valid entry).
3. EXIF data should be intact. It helps if you can include the main points (including camera, lens, date taken, ISO, shutter
speed and aperture) in the text of your message.

separate pictures but your entry should be in a separate post and the only marked with the text above). It must be an
original image taken by you.
5. Remember the cross-site image size limit (740px on the longest side).
6. If the image does not exist in post at the end of the contest, it is disqualified. If you modify anything on flickr and
re-save the image then the link is broken and the message needs edited to link the picture again before it will be included
in the contest.
For everyone, please do not repeat other people's photos by quoting them until the contest is over. If you want to
comment on or discuss an entry you can use a link to it (or just delete the picture from the quoted text).
7. If you are looking for the winners of the mini-contest, please check the Assignment section the weekend after the
contest closes. There should be a thread announcing the winners.
8. For help with posting images, check the FAQ at the top of this page and click on "Posting Images". It will give you a
detailed explanation.
Next week: Landscapes: "Urban Black and White"
I know most of us have admired black and white landscapes and noticed that even with the lack of color, how lighting and
form can produce a memorable landscape shot. In this assignment, we are back in an urban area again (city or town). To
make your image stand out, take advantage of the textures urban photography offers. Sometimes these details can be
lost in more colorful images. You may need to pay closer attention to the direction of the sun and how sunlight adds to the
shadows and highlights that play an important role in black and white photography. Pay particular attention to the sky.
Clouds can add dimension to a black and white landscape.
Most of the links you read in the past two assignments will be helpful for this assignment, too, so you might want to go
back and look at them as well as the links below.

Assignment: Landscapes: Nature - trees

The English countryside is full of oil seed rape at the moment, and I spotted this field from the M11 on my drive to work
last week. I went back on the weekend and this image was taken on Sunday, 15 April 2012.

Bridge Over Still Waters

My husband and I were cycling on Sunday, and as we cycled past the lake, I was compelled to stop and take several
photos with my P&S, which I carry on most of my rides.
It was calm and about 2 hours till sunset ... I liked the reflection of the bridge and trees in the water, and the warm glow of
the late sunlight.

Assignment: Landscape: nature - trees

Radiohead sang about "Fake plastic trees". I do have a green watering can, but not a fake rubber plant
I took this picture of my climbing hydrangea with a new macro lens at the weekend. I think the buds look like a forest of
trees.

Landscapes: Nature - Trees

I was out storm chasing this weekend and had the chance to catch this shot of the sun.
You can see how the wind sheer push the clouds apart.
