Introduction: Hypothyroidism is a syndrome of hypometabolism with insufficient or inappropriate production of
thyroid hormone. Hypothyroidism is often associated with obesity, lipid metabolic disorders and glucose, elevated
blood pressure.
Aim: The aim of this study was to assess and identify risk factors for cardiovascular disease in patients with primary
hypothyroidism.
Material and methods: Study comprised 30 patients with primary hypothyroidism, the subjects were on
levothyroxine replacement therapy, group consisted of 24 women and 6 men, age 54 2 years., And 30 euthyroid
subjects (20 women and 10 men) aged 53 5 years. f clinical characteristics was determined FT4 values, sTSH,
and of risk factors ,total LDL and HDL cholesterol, triglycerides. Values were considered elevated systolic pressure
higher than 140 mmHg and diastolic 90 mmHg higher.
Results: The average values of TSH were 4.31 1.51 mIU / L vs 2.89 0.9 mIU / L, p <0.05. The analysis of
average total cholesterol were (6.66 1.30 0.95 vs. 6.23 p <0.05), triglycerides (3.20 1.23 vs. 1.30 0.95;
p <0 , 05), LDL cholesterol (3.74 vs. 1.83 1.30 0.95; p <0.05), average HDL in examination group were 1.13
mmol / l, and in the control , 29 mmol / l).
Conclusion: Our study confirms the fact that the respondents with primary hypothyroidism represent the category
of persons with increased cardiovascular risk.
