Discuss fully the following sole question: If Duterte were to do a Mandela-like

strategy where a rugby game was able to unite the people of a divided
country like South Africa, is it possible for Duterte to organize a basketball
game between Christians and Muslims in the same fashion like what Mandela
did in the 90's? In other words, would this basketball game or any sport for
that matter be the solution to long-lasting peace in Mindanao? What do you

Sport has played a vital role in developing cooperation and peace. If Duterte
were to do a Mandela-like strategy where a rugby game was able to unite
people, I think it is possible. I agree with Christine Joy that sport is a
universal language that can help promote the core values necessary for
lasting peace. Through sports, Christians and Muslims can learn the
importance of respect and acceptance of cultural and religious orientations
different from their own. It can also teach them to focus on their mutual
interest rather than using other problems as starting points for intervention.

Our leaders must learn how to create cohesion and unity, and also bridge the
divide between opposing groups in society, to build the broad consensus and

tolerance necessary for a state to flourish. Just like what Mandela said, If
you want to make peace with your enemy, you have to work with your
enemy. Then he becomes your partner.

Organized crime refers to transnational, national, or local groupings of highly


centralized enterprises run by criminals for the purpose of engaging in illegal
activity,

commonly

monetary

profit.

Sometimes

criminal organizations force people to do business with them, as when a


gang extorts money from shopkeepers for "protection." Gangs may become
"disciplined" enough to be considered "organized." While the petty crime is a
type of crime that is not considered serious compared to the organized
crime. It is a lesser crime punishable by a fine, penalty and/or county jail
time for up to one year. Some of these petty crimes include petty theft,
drunk driving without injury to others, and various traffic violations.

Referring to the movie, American Gangster, how organized is organized

The organized crime in American Gangster is well-organized. Frank Lucas


looks like a normal business man who runs a legal business. He has his own
apartment for the processing of the dope without the authority knowing it.
He has many connections and one of the most important from his
connections is that one drug dealer from Thailand who delivers dope using
the military plane. It is just a matter of money which Frank Lucas is using to
bribe anyone to help him in the success of the delivery of the dope and also
for the success of his career as a drug dealer.

1. How does the movie portray the so-called, American Underworld?
What insights did you gain? (10 pts)
The movie portrays American Underworld specifically on International
Drug Trafficking. Lucas pursues to be rich by entering the drug world. His
idea was to bypass the Mafias heroin and go directly to the source of
drugs. By that time, Vietnam War had been raging for several years. It
was common knowledge that U.S service personnel had been exposed to
many different illegal drugs, including heroin. When they came back to
the States with their addictions, they sought out new sources. By the late
1960s and early 1970s, dope was rampant in most large American cities.
Lucas knew he could meet this demand and make a hefty profit if he could
get the drugs directly from the source. I realized how this American
Underworld affects the whole country and the person involved with this
kind of organized crime. If you are into this kind of business, your life is at
risk and there is also a chance that you will lose even your loved ones.
2. How does American society treat an underworld character like Frank
Lucas? - the persona portrayed by Denzel Washington. What insights
did you gain? (10 pts)
Most of the people treated Frank Lucas as a normal business man. Some
idolizes him for being rich and successful without even realizing and
knowing where that money came from and what kind of business he has.
Even though Frank Lucas help those poor people by giving them relief
goods, there is also a bad thing which is he being drug dealer can destroy
the lives of everybody who will be using that drug.

3. Are many of the events portrayed in the movie realistically happening


in Philippine society today? Why or why not? Explain your answer. (10
pts)
Yes. Illegal drug trade and other crimes in the Philippines remain a
serious national concern. The number of reported crimes has been
rising and the ability of the police to solve crimes has decreased. While
almost of the places in our country have drug-related cases. These two
remains difficult to bring to a halt due to modus operandi and the
involvement of persons of authority.
4. From a general perspective, is American society a potential breeder of
crime? Why or why not? Explain your answer. (10 pts)
From a general perspective, I think its no. Crime exists not only in USA
but also in many other countries that is why we cannot say that
American society is a potential breeder of crime. Illicit economies exist
in some form virtually everywhere. And drugs are coming from
different countries, not only from the USA.
