Motoha Yoshin Ryu Jujutsu

Motoha Yoshin Ryu Jujutsu or MHYRJJ is quite unlike any Japanese art that Ive seen
before. It seems so similar to Chinese arts that Ive studied like Tai Chi and Pa Kua
Chang. For me the biggest surprise was that I had thought of Traditional Japanese Jujutsu
as exactly the same as karate and judo. I had no idea that there were so many styles of
jujutsu. Jujutsu is the native self-defense arts of Japan, whereas karate was imported from
Okinawa.
The clue of the arts true ways are in the Kanji that make up Jujutsu(). has the
meaning of soft and means technique. Of course both characters can have several
different meanings in English, but for the sake of the discussion lets focus on these
definitions. I had previously looked at jujutsu as being very hard style and using strength.
But if strength were the main component then my 85 year old teacher. would not be able
to so effortlessly control me. Its his mastery of soft technique that allows him to
perform the kata on people twice his size. Indeed the softness of it reminds me of the
sessions I had with a 65-year-old Taiji master in Taiwan.
