BriefCourseDescription
Sustainabilityisbasedonasimpleprinciple:Everythingthatweneedforoursurvivalandwellbeingdepends,either
directlyorindirectly,onourenvironment.Sustainabilitycreatesandmaintainstheconditionsunderwhichhumans
andthebioticworldcanexistinproductiveharmony,thatpermitfulfillingthesocial,economicandother
requirementsofpresentandfuturegenerations.Sustainabilityisimportanttomakingsurethatwehaveandwill
continuetohave,thewater,materials,andresourcestoprotecthumanhealthandourenvironment.
SustainableAgricultureisaoneyearcoursedesignedtointegratebiologicalsciencepracticesandknowledgeinto
thepracticeofsustainableagriculture.Thecourseisorganizedintofourmajorsections,orunits.Withineachunit
specificlifescienceprincipleswillbeidentifiedwithagriculturalprinciplesandpracticesguidingtheacquisitionofthis
knowledge,culminatinginthedevelopmentofasustainablefarmmodelandportfolioofsupportingstudentresearch.
