DIRECTOR OF MUSIC JOB DESCRIPTION

Reports to: Senior Pastor


Position Description
The Director of Music will direct, oversee and facilitate the delivery of all music for
Sunday services, and for other church events such as funerals and weddings. This is a
full time salaried position.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities include:

Plan, prepare and conduct music for Sunday worship (8:00, 9:15 and 10:30) and
other related church services
Participate in worship planning meetings with staff
Work directly with various music ensembles and individuals: Choir, Praise Team,
Bell Choir, Small Ensembles, Special Music, Organist, Childrens Choirs
Lead appropriate rehearsal activities during the week (usually in the evening)
Recruit leaders, volunteers and participants to the music and worship ministry
Coordinate volunteers and work with Music staff to oversee administrative work
Provide regular updates to Senior Pastor
Other duties as assigned

Expectations:
The staff is expected to:
Be present for Sunday preparation time and worship service
Present a professional demeanor in every aspect of daily tasks
Establish a congenial working relationship with church members, the Pastor and
the other staff members
Work as a united team to fulfill the mission of the church
Adhere to the employee policies stated in the MUMC Employee Manual
Strive for excellence in the pursuit of the churchs mission
Qualifications

The Director should have extensive musical training and experience leading a
large choir. Strong leader with the ability to work with multiple personalities and
highly skilled musicians. Grow choirs and instrumentalists that can serve in all
services, including traditional and alternative services. Strive for excellence while

understanding that the job is to LEAD people into worship, not perform for them.
Minister to those persons participating in the music ministries.
High School Graduate, B.A. or B.F.A., Masters Degree preferred,
Professionally trained and skilled.
Minimum of 3 years experience leading a music ministry in a church, or
commensurate experience
Proficient computer skills: Word, Excel, Outlook, Worship Media Software
Proven experience in recruiting qualified leaders/volunteers
Demonstrates strong communication and organizational skills
Team player able to carry out verbal or written instruction
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and with attention to detail
Must have a passion and love for Christ and commitment to the mission of
MUMC
Must be Safe Sanctuary certified, which includes criminal background check
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without
reasonable accommodation
