Govt to rename Mission Indradhanush, adds four new vaccines to immunisation
drive
i. The Union health ministry to revamp its flagship immunisation
programme MissionIndradhanush to include four new vaccines forrotavirus, measles
rubella, inactivated polio vaccine biavalent and Japanese Encephalitis for adults.
Mission Indradhanush:
ii. The mission depicting the seven colours of the rainbow that provides immunisation
coverage against diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, tuberculosis, measles and
hepatitis B.
iii. The centre is targeting to immunise 90% of infants by 2020 under its ambitious
nationwide immunisation drive.
Prime Minister approves retirement age of doctors of Central Health Services to
65 years
i. Central Government has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Health and Family
Welfare for enhancing the retirement age of all doctors of the Central Health Service
to 65 years.
ii. Purpose: To retain the experienced doctors for a longer period & provide quality health
services to citizens, particularly the poor.
iii.The Cabinet will soon approve a Bill to increase the superannuation age of all central
government doctors from 60 to 65 years.
iv. According to the Health Ministry website, there are about 4,000 doctors under the
Central Health Service.
Delhi Government Launches DVAT M SEWA Mobile App
i. Delhi Government has launched DVAT M SEWA mobile app through which city traders
can register themselves with the VAT department of the state government.
ii. DVAT M SEWA mobile app is launched in order to boost the tax collection.
iii. This app will ensure VAT registration within 24 hrs of filing request.
iv. With the help of DVAT M SEWA, VAT inspectors visit at traders business premises will
not be required instead traders will have to upload a picture of their business premises in
the app only.

DRDO and Ayush join hands to impart yoga training to Defence Wing Staff
i. Delhi based DRDOs laboratory Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences(DIPAS)
DRDO in collaboration with Department of AYUSH organised a training program on Yoga for
the Defence Wing Staff.
ii. In the training programme 33 participants from Army, Defence Wing Staff, Navy and Air
Headquarters took part.
iii. Earlier the DRDOs lab has imparted training to about 8000 Army and Paramilitarypersonnel
deployed at various locations.

Projects worth Rs. 2446 Crore approved under Namami Gange Programme
Initiator: Empowered Steering Committee (ESC) of the National Ganga River Basin
Authority (NGRBA).
Purpose:
Duration : 5 years
Estimated Cost: The total estimated cost of the projects is Rs. 2446 crore
Steps taken: To improve the facilities of Ghats and crematoria for reduction of pollutionload
into river Ganga.
Sponsorship: Namami Gange scheme and Government of India with fullfledged intention.
ESC also evaluated the Detailed Project Report on Forestry Intervention in River Ganga.
Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij stated that the state government would enact

Uma Bharti launches first trash skimmer for River Yamuna for skimming of solid waste
material
i. Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti has launched the first trash skimmer for River
Yamuna for skimming of solid waste material and a sum of 850 crore rupees have been approved
for the third phase of Yamuna action plan
ii. The money will be utilised to clean up the stretch of Yamuna from Wazirabad to Okhla.
Delhis Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra was also present at the launch in New Delhi.
iii. These floating trash skimmers is to be used for cleaning the river of all kinds of floating
materials like plastic bags, bottles, cans, food packets, coconuts among others, dumped into the
river by humans.

Developing the quality of waste water and storm water runoff flowing
78 units will be established in project villages for collection, storage and composting of

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari launches Nirbhaya buses with safety measures for women
i. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari launched 20 Nirbhaya buses of
Rajasthan State Transport Corporation that comes with safety measures of Women commuters.
ii. These bus security measures include Vehicle Tracking System (VTS), CCTV and panic
buttons on every seat. The panic buttons will enable the police to track the exact location of the
bus and provide prompt assistance.
iii. The proposed 20 Mahila Gaurav Express buses in a pilot basis that would run between Delhi
and Rajasthan. The Rajasthan government plans to bring over 2,300 more buses under the
projects scope.
Dial 139 for wait-listed ticket cancellation
i. Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu launched 139 service for RAC and wait-listed tickets to
cancel their tickets, Earlier only confirmed ticket holders could cancel their tickets through 139
service and IRCTC website.
ii. This move will pave the way for the wait-listed and RAC allocated train ticket holders can cancel
their tickets by dialling 139.
iii. Upon this online cancellation by 139 will be allowed only 4 hours before the scheduled
departure of the train in case of confirmed tickets and up to half an hour before the scheduled
departure of the train in case of RAC and wait-listed cases.

iv. The workshop has features like rain water harvesting, sewage treatment plan, grey

The Naval Ship (INS) Airavat of India arrived at Brunei and will take part in the ADMM
Plus (ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting Plus) Exercise on Maritime Security and Counter
Terrorism from 01 to 09 May 16.
ADMM plus Ex MS & CT is a multinational exercise of ADMM Plus countries group. This
edition will commence at Brunei and conclude at Singapore.
During the course of the exercise the Indian Navy would engage with participating navies
from various ASEAN and other countries through professional interactions in harbour
and complex operations at sea.
Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippines to conduct joint water patrols to curb kidnappings
i. Three Southeast Asian nations namely Indonesia, Malaysia and Philippines is set to conduct
coordinated maritime patrols to face the rising kidnappings and security challenges in the
waters bordering the three countries.
ii. These countries pledged to set up crisis centers within their countries as well as a hotline

have discovered a new reef system at the mouth of the Amazon River

i. The worlds oldest Olympic champion, Sandor Tarics, has died at the age of 102 in San Francisco.
ii. He was the team member of the Hungarian waterpolo team that gave triumph to its side in
the Berlin Olympics in 1936, pushing Germany into second place.
iii. Sabdor in the United States in 1949 and earned recognition for his new home country as a
designer of earthquake-proof building technologies.
iv. He also gave attendance to the 2012 London Olympics as the oldest living champion.

Pink Panther and James Bond actor Burt Kwouk dies aged 85
i. The British actor Burt Kwouk has died aged 85. He was best known for his role as Catoin
the Pink Panther films.
ii.The British actor starred in BBC sitcom Last of the Summer Wine from 2002 to 2010 and he was
awarded an Order of the British Empire in the 2011.
iii.The UK born actor had lived with his Chinese parents in Shanghai also starred in three Bond
movies, Goldfinger, You Only Live Twice and the 1967 spoof Casino Royale.
Param Vir Diary by Manju Lodha covers a total of 21 instances of bravery recounted by
the friends and families of Param Vir Chakra awardees.
Param Vir Chakra is the highest gallantry honour bestowed by government to those
serving in the Indian armed forces.It is such a sporadic honour that only 21 people have
ever been awarded one. Two-thirds of them posthumously.

President of India receives first copies of books Tagores Vision of the Contemporary
World and Tagore and Russia
i. Indias President Pranab Mukherjee will receive the first copies of books Tagores Vision of the
Contemporary World and Tagore and Russia at a function at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New
Delhi.
ii. Both books are being published by Delhi based Indian Council for Cultural Relations(ICCR)
also contains papers presented at international conferences organized by ICCR in New Delhi and
Moscow in 2011 as part of the 150th Birth Anniversary Celebrations of Gurudev Rabindra Nath
Tagore.
