Preferred Supplier Program
Kohls always aims to deliver Private and Exclusive Brand Products at a fantastic value
to our customers. The Kohls value equation is a realistic balance of Quality, Style,
Price and Store Experience. We are constantly looking for ways to ensure that Kohls
products represent reliable quality that exceeds our customers expectations on every
occasion! We firmly believe that each individual component in a garment contributes to
making a quality product. To ensure that our vendors have access to consistent sources of quality trim
and findings, we have developed a Preferred Supplier Program with multinational suppliers of these
products.
The trim suppliers on the Preferred Supplier Matrix are divided into two categories, Preferred and
Recommended Suppliers. Trims for all Kohls private and exclusive brand apparel products
must be purchased from either a Preferred or Recommended supplier.
Preferred Suppliers should be used for any private or exclusive brand product, but are required for
all metal components on Newborn to 16 Girls and Newborn to 20 Boys products.
Recommended Suppliers can be used on any Good, Better or Best orders with total style
quantity of less than 75,000 units*. Recommended Suppliers CAN NOT be used for metal
components on any private or exclusive brand childrens products as outlined above,
For all orders with initial quantities below the 75,000 unit limit, vendors must source trims from either
the Preferred Suppliers or Recommended Suppliers lists at the back of this document. If
subsequent orders push the total order quantity over 75,000 units, Kohls Technical Design and
Production Teams will jointly review the trim suppliers selected to determine if the trims should be
moved to a Preferred Supplier.
ALTERNATIVE SUPPLIERS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON ANY KOHLs PRIVATE OR EXCLUSUIVE
BRAND APPAREL PRODUCTS!
* To calculate the 75,000 unit cutoff, include all styles placed with same vendor having the same
construction. This may include different style numbers for stripe, print, or pattern layout. As a general
rule, all styles grouped in one WebPDM Technical Design Package will be considered one style for the
purpose of determining if a style falls above or below the 75,000 unit limit.
By purchasing your trims and findings from one of these suppliers, you support Kohls Value Equation
and ensure the trims on your product meet Kohls quality standards.

What are the mandatory trim items?
All Apparel products for Good, Better and Best, Private or Exclusive brands must use trims
purchased through a Preferred or Recommended Supplier.
ALL Newborn to 7-16 Girls and 8-20 Boys apparel must use Preferred Suppliers for zippers,
fasteners and metal components.
Interlining: Interlining and embroidery backing for all Private and Exclusive Brands must come from
Preferred or Recommended Suppliers. All qualities must be approved by the Kohls Technical
Designer. Substitutions are not allowed after approval.
Thread: All thread for all Private and Exclusive Brands must come from Preferred or
Recommended Suppliers.
Alvanon: Dress forms are required in all factories & sample rooms producing Kohls apparel.

How has the Preferred Supplier Program changed since the CPSIA Act?
Due to CPSIA requirements, Kohls requires all childrens Newborn, to Girls 7-16 and Newborn to
Boys 8- 20 products to be tested in an approved 3rd party testing lab. The trim testing will include
all applicable regulatory toxicity tests and be conducted in every colorway and is paid for by the
trim supplier. Testing will also be conducted during the production/ finished garment testing stage.
The cost of conducting the finished garment testing is the responsibility of the vendor.

information on trim testing standards and performance expectations. Kohls expects vendors to take
advantage of its Preferred Suppliers program to ensure the quality of trim products used in
Kohls Private and Exclusive Brand garments meet Kohls expectations.

How to become a Preferred/ Recommended Supplier for Kohls?
Contact Glenn Cavadel (glenn.cavadel@kohls.com) to set up an appointment to review company

profile and products. For suppliers recommended through Li & Fung, all initial requests/
nominations should go through Eric Sit (EricSit@lifung.com.hk).
Supplier must pass a minimum requirement checklist and fill out an online survey outlining
company background and capabilities.
If the supplier meets Kohls initial program requirements, the next step is to submit product for
testing using Kohls Intertek Trim Test Request Form. A selection of various product types, sizes
and finishes/color should be submitted and tested against (and pass) Kohls 300 series protocols
before final approval as a preferred supplier is granted.

Preferred/ Recommended Suppliers Responsibilities:
Dedicated customer service representatives in US, or travel to Kohls on a semi-annual basis.

Request / Review vendor mockups in correct fabric, styling and construction. Recommend trim
and application conditions based on fabric and use within garment. Report to vendor using style
specific data sheets.
Provide Kohls quarterly sales data to glenn.cavadel@kohls.com listing:
o Preferred Supplier Style # (description, size, quality, finish, etc.)
o Name of Kohls Vendor purchasing the trim with country of production.
o Kohls style # which the trim is to be used on.
o Total # of units
o Amount of sale (US$)
Based on Semi-annual sales data, re-test top 3 products sold to Kohls (Based on # of units) in
each category the supplier is listed in, using current Testing Protocols at an independent
laboratory approved by Kohls. Testing needs to be performed to remain Kohls preferred
supplier. Test results are due to Kohls no later than April 30 and October 30.
Certify all products meet or exceed current Kohls quality and testing protocols, which are
subject to change.
Review and abide by Kohls Trim Testing Protocols, and Regulatory - Safety Standards as
updated on Kohls Connection ( https://www.connection.kohls.com )
Provide Global production, support and identification of product
Send seasonal product books/trends to Kohls and Agent Offices
Provide Technical Support at factory level free of charge
Provide Kohls with ceiling pricing of approved trim qualities, based on location if necessary.
Provide Guaranteed lead times.
Follow up with Vendor and Kohls in a timely manner.
Match trim to Kohl's color palette.
Sampling programs, develop new styles free of charge.
Provide samples to Vendors free of charge for style development.
Meets agreed upon level of service for Kohls vendors.
Ensure orders are identified for childrens products so products supplied meet Kohls safety
regulations and applicable laws.
Vendors Responsibilities (& Agent)
Agreement to use Kohls preferred suppliers on private brand and exclusive brand merchandise
as outlined by Kohls.
Submit mock-up in correct fabrication, styling and construction to trim supplier for evaluation
prior to purchasing trim. Review trim supplier data sheet/check sheet and follow application
instructions for recommended trims.
Use and negotiate with Kohls preferred suppliers.
Place orders in a timely fashion in order to obtain delivery.
Communicate problems with suppliers to Kohls.
Identify Kohl's on the trim PO. All POs must include the following
o Kohls PO #
o Kohls Style #
o Kohls Department #
o Orders for childrens products must note this on the trim PO so suppliers understand
what safety regulations need to be met.
QA checks correcct trim was purchased and applied correctly.
