Yacht design and rating rules have evolved and so too have my designs for Arcona. Our new Arcona 380 has further developed the
successful hull lines of the 340 (2nd in the ORC European Championships 2013) and the twin-wheeled 410, whilst remaining true
to the spirit of Arcona with its hand-crafted interior and beautifully balanced helm. Very few Yards today build real cruiser/ racers
which combine sailing excellence with the attention to detail and
quality that is typical of Arcona. Most of the small and specialised
yards are gone and focus is on the mass-produced boats. My task
together with Arcona Yachts is once again to create a trendsetter.
Project Arcona 380 has now begun.

Early in 2000 I received the assignment to design the Arcona 400.

My brief was to design a completely new and unique yacht the
ultimate cruiser/racer. A world class yacht that was easy to sail
short-handed and yet a racer that was able to win Offshore as
well as round the cans. The Arcona 400 became the boat that
sailors regard as a classic. In the ensuing 14 years this vision has
resulted in the building of more than 400 Arconas across a range
of 6 yachts from 34-46 feet.

Arcona 380 Designers perspective

Stefan Qviberg
Designer

With the expertise and resources of the Arcona group, the Arcona
380 will be sailing in the summer of 2014. She will be beautiful!
She will be fast! And she will feel like an Arcona!

The Arcona 380 will be light, rigid and strong. The hull and deck
will be vacuum infused using Vinylester and multiaxial rovings to
guarantee the optimisation of weight and consistency of production. At her heart will be a galvanised steel cradle taking the dynamic loads of the keel and rig. Her sail plan will have a 107%
overlapped headsail and big mainsail ensuring that sail handling is
easy and her windward performance superb. Her high stability will
be achieved with a composite keel with a fin of steel and an L
shaped lead bulb. The optimisation of the keel shape to achieve
maximum lift and minimum drag, is a result of my collaboration in
a development project with the Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg.
