How does human culture affect geography? Which cultures do you believe have had the
most significant influence on geography? Provide examples.
Write a paper of 350- to 700- words that develops an expanded definition of geography
and reflects two of the following three aspects:
Dynamic and changing, not static
Relationships of the subfields to one another and the whole of geography
Changes that trigger other changes, such as natural disasters
Describe the four subfields of geography and explain how those subfields apply to reallife applications.
Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines
Does the United States have its own culture, or is it a culture that has been created by
mixing other cultures together? Provide examples.
How will climate and weather trends affect the physical Earth over the next 500 years
based on current pollution trends? What changes could be made by humans to alter the
current pollution trends and produce a different outcome than the one you previously
projected?
What would happen to the Earths climate if the flow and temperature of the oceans were
altered due to ocean basin earthquakes?
How will the deforestation of the Earths tropical forests affect the Earths temperature or
climate? Explain.
Are traditional maps of any value now that we have GPS technology? Explain. Predict
what new means of mapping might be invented over the next 15 years to replace current
GPS technology.
The Bureau of Land Management wants you to present a plan for a self-contained city.
The population is 1,000. Your job is to locate the site and provide a map, a physical
description of the land, an analysis of how the climate has shaped the land up to this
point, and a projection of how the physical land may change in the coming year due to
climatic effects.
Collaborate as a team to select a real location using an online map resources site such as
Google Maps.
Create a report of 1,050- to 1,400- words that includes the following:
A screen shot of a map of the area chosen
The latitude and longitude of the location
A description of the physical attributes
Brief analysis of how climate has shaped the area
Prediction of how climate may change the area over the next year
Format your report consistent with APA guidelines.
How does urban sprawl affect local climates? Provide examples of cities that have
negative climate effects because of urban sprawl. What could be done to reduce the
negative climate effects in these areas?
If you were allowed to farm only one kind of crop, which type of crop would be most
beneficial for humans? If you could raise only one type of animal on a farm, which type of
animal would be most beneficial to humans? Explain.
How do large animal farms compete with the need for crop food to feed humans? How
could large animal farms be affected by urban sprawl? Explain.
3. There is a decreasing water supply, which may be caused by the rise in UrCitys
temperatures and changing
weather patterns.
Do you agree or disagree with cutting down forests to make room for farming? Why or
why not?
Based on your previous findings during the creation of a city with your Learning Team in
Week Three, the Urban Planning Department has asked you to prepare a presentation.
You need to discuss the future of your citys economic growth over the next 10 years.
Resource: Physical Landscapes and Climate Report from Week Three
Complete a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation of at least 10 slides that addresses the
following questions:
Are there enough natural resources to sustain your current population of 1,000?
Will those same resources also provide for economic growth? Why or why not?
How will global warming affect those resources?
How will you use geographical knowledge to assist you in planning the future of this city?
Present your Natural Resources and Growth Presentation.
For Local Campus students, these are 10- to 15-minute oral presentations accompanied
by Microsoft PowerPoint presentations.
For Online and Directed Study students, these are Microsoft PowerPoint presentations
with notes.
