Inthecaseofloadsheddingwithoutablow-offvalvetheaimistoavoidacompressorpump.Apumpingcompressorarisesifhighpressureratiosandlowmassflowsoccur.Incontrasttheenginemeasuresarethatthroughtheenginecontrolthetargetmassflowisincreaseduntilthepumplimitcanfall
belowthelimitandthechargingpressurecandissipate.Thenecessarymassflowisadjustedbyactivatingthethrottlevalveandvalvelift.Excessivecylinderfillingandtheresultinghightorqueisthen
torque-controlledforexamplereducedviaretardingtheignitiontiming.Theresultsinneutraldriveability.

isthefactthatthehighpressurelinesfromrailtoinjectorarenownolongerboltedattherailend,but
weldedasonN20.

Donotopenthefuelsystemifthecoolanttemperatureisabove40C/104F.Theresidual
pressureinthehighpressurefuelsystemcouldcausebodilyinjury.
Itisessentialtoobservetheutmostcleanlinesswhenworkingonthehighpressurefuelsystemandto
followtheproperworkingproceduresdescribedintherepairinstructions.Evenminutesoilingordamageatthethreadconnectionsofthehighpressurelinescouldcauseleaks.
WhenworkingonthefuelsystemoftheN63TUengine,itisimportanttoensurethattheignitioncoils
arenotwetwithfuel.Theresistanceofthesiliconematerialisgreatlyreducedbysustainedcontact
withfuel.Thiscouldresultinarcingatthetopofthesparkplugandmisfiring.

Beforemakinganymodificationstothefuelsystem,alwaysremovetheignitioncoilsandprotectthesparkplugshaftagainsttheingressoffuelbycoveringthemwithacloth

Beforereinstallingthesolenoidvalveinjectors,removetheignitioncoilsandensurethatgreatestpossiblecleanlinessismaintained.

Ignitioncoilsheavilysaturatedwithfuelmustbereplaced.

7.2.Fuelpumpcontrol
Thefuelisdeliveredfromthefueltankthroughtheelectricfuelpumpviathefeedlineataprimary
pressureof5.9bar(85.57psi)tothehighpressurepump.Theon-loadspeedcontrolisdoneviathe
DME.Thelow-pressuresensorhasbeeneliminated.

TheknownBoschhighpressurepumpisused.Thisisasingle-plungerpumpwhichisdrivenfromthe
exhaustcamshaftviaatriplecam.Sothatsufficientfuelpressureisguaranteedineachloadcondition
oftheengine,ahighpressurepumpisusedintheN63TUengineforeachbank.

Ifaninjectororacylinderwasreplaced,aninjectionquantitycompensationmustbeperformed.This
isperformedwithhelpoftheadjustmentvalue.Theadjustmentvalueisimprintedontheinjectorbody
withthreefigures.TheadjustmentvaluemustbereadbeforetheinstallationandinputintheDMEwith
theuseofatestplaninISTA.
