1. Canada declared war on Germany 1939 October 9th.

2. Canada declared war on Germany, 7 days after Britain and France. The first Canadian
troops left for England in December. Although "obliged to go to war at Britain's side,"
King's delay of a week was a symbolic gesture of independence. The Canadian political
leaders unnecessarily went to seek approval from the federal government. The house of
parliament then approved of joining the war on September 9th. (source:

3. This event was important for Canada and the world because this was the moment that the
Canadian industrial revolution was kickstarted again. When Canada had declared that
they would go to war this led to a dramatic change in the momentum of the war because
all of a sudden the axis had an entirely new country that was made into their enemy and
had some of the most determined and feared troops in the new world. Canadians would
from then on be marked as hardhitting shock troops in the war.
4. What couldve changed about what happened is if Canada had not been obliged to go to
war then most likely Canada would not have. Canada joining the war was because of the
obligation to the nation of Britain, but if Canada had no obligation to Britain then Canada
would have no reason to join the war. Another way that a change in this even could have
altered history is that if the King didnt respect Canadas independency and forced
Canada to go to war immediately with no choice in the matter, Canada may have been put
into a civil war because the people who were disrespected by the lack of
acknowledgement that they were independent may have been put into a dispute with the
people who had wanted to go to war.
5. If Canada had not joined the war, then quite possibly hitler may have won the whole
thing. When Canada joined the war a pivotal point in the war was the battle of Normandy,
when the Germans had captured Paris Canadian, British, and Polish armies were trying to
liberate Paris but what swung the war in favour of the allied forces were the costly
operations made by the Canadian soldiers. These operations were very successful and by
the time the Us had shown up They had already almost finished the operations and
defeated some of Germanys best and most disciplined troops. If Canada had never joined
the war then the battle of Normandy may have been lost. Since Germanys best forces
were there at there The British and the polish alone may not have been enough to liberate
France and then since they lost paris and the best troops in germanys army survived this
event may have snowballed the war out of control into the side of the germans and quite
possibly after the Germans had finished with Europe they couldve invaded Canada and
we would have been hopeless to stop them.
6. If Canada had been taken over by Germany then Jews would by now mostly be extinct or
put into death or slavery camps and the amount of deaths would most like exceed the
hundreds of millions by now. Canada would now be on the German system for
everything. Everyone in Canada would be forced to learn German, forced to read Mein
Kamf as a child and forced to learn the arian way of life. The world would rever Hitler as
a God and no one would be able to stop him and his reign of tyranny. In Canada we

would no longer have French as our Second Language and we would be made to speak
German in all instances or face severe and heavy punishment. Many religions in the
world would soon be snuffed out and No one would have individuality. Canada would be
a cold desolate wasteland robbed of its natural resources and sent off to Germany. Many
places would end up being deserted due to the lack of resources, people or just plain
oppression.
