HEALTH 8 COURSE OUTLINE
2016-2017
Health 8 Course Description
The purpose of Health and Life Skills Course is to enable students to make well-informed healthy choices and to
develop behaviors that contribute to the well-being of self and others. This course is aimed at providing young
people with the information and skills they need to reach their full potential develop meaningful relationships and
make thoughtful and responsible decisions throughout their lives. It is designed to improve health, behavior, and
create a better environment for living and learning. The course is personal in nature and involves abilities based on
a body of knowledge and practice that builds on personal values and beliefs within the context of family, school
and community.
The Health curriculum has 3 core outcomes and several specific areas of study:
It is the students responsibility to make sure that if they are going to be absent, or they miss a day due to illness, that
they check to see what assignments they need to complete due to that absence.
Students will be given ample time and reminders to hand in missing assignments. If a student doesnt submit an
assignment before the reporting period deadline they will receive a 10% effort grade on that particular assignment.
Students going on family trips and missing a long period of time will be required to keep a travel journal that will
exempt them from minor in class assignments during their absence. If you know you are leaving on a trip please see
Mr. Gaudet for a copy of the travel journal assignment sheet.
The class website sfgaudet.weebly.com will have some digital copies of assignments but not all in class assignments
will be accessible online.
This classroom is all about feeling safe and respected. Please keep in mind that we are all expected to treat others how we
would like to be treated. Before saying something think, is this something I would say to a parent or a grandparent? If the
answer is NO, please keep it to yourself or try to reword it in a positive way. This is how behaviour will be dealt with in this
classroom:
