I.) Topic: Characteristics of Plants

II.) Content
What are the common characteristics of plants?
1.) Most plants are green.
2.) Plants grow to a certain size . Trees grow tall while other plants do not.
3.) Plants have roots, stem, and leaves. Some bear flowers and fruit.
4.) Plants need water, air, and sunlight.
5.) Some plants have smell and others do not.

Based on their characteristics, plants may be classified according to


color, size, smell, and parts.
Color
Most plants have green leaves. Santan, lilies, and grass have a green leaves.

Other plants have orange, yellow, or red leaves. The leaves of San Francisco
plants come in yellow or red. the leaves of mayana come in red.

Size
Trees are large and tall plants. Other plants like gumamela and sambong do
not grow as tall as big trees. There are plants like grasses that are short and small.

Smell
Some plants have a certain smell while others do not. Plants may be
Fragnant, odorous, or odorless. compare these plants according to their smell.

What are the Plant Parts?


Stem
Some plants have soft, fleshy stem .These are called herbaceous plants.
Herbs like kuchay, Pechay, and Kinchai are good example of these plants. They grow
short and close to the ground.

Other plants like acacia, narra, and mango trees have strong, thick, and
upright stems. These are called woody plants.

Leaves
Leaves vary in size and shape. Banana leaf is big while santan leaf is small.
Corn leaf is long and slender While guava leaf is short and oval.
Flowers
Flowers are part of plants that help produce new plants. Some plants that are
colorful and attractive . Others are plain.

Most flowers are open day and night . There are some that open only during
day; others open only at night.

Some flowers are fragrant; others smell foul. Still others are odorless.
Fruit
Some plants bear fruits. Examples of fruit-bearing Plants are mango, banana,
and coconut.
