Article of the Week Daily Tasks

Purpose:

To demonstrate evidence of close reading, proving total comprehension and understanding of the article.
To actively read by talking back to the text, asking the text questions and by making connections between your life and the
text.
Directions:

Please complete each section assigned to you nightly.

The annotations must be shown in your article. The S.O.A.P.S.Tone, and the 5,4,3,2,1 responses must be completed in
your notebook.
Monday

Evidence of Proper Annotation:

You must use every annotating symbol throughout the article.

After annotating:

S.O.A.P.S.Tone (speaker, occasion, audience, purpose, subject, tone)

Tuesday
5 Sentence Summary:
The summary must include
Topic sentence- This article is about
Three main points the article made
Closing Sentence- In conclusion
(Who, What, Where, When, Why?)
Wednesday

4 Sentence Response/opinion:
The response should include your feelings about the article. Did you agree or disagree with some of
the arguments or events going on in the article? JUSTIFY!!! USE EVIDENCE FROM THE TEXT!!!

3 Questions or Connections:
Write 3 sentences about something that you still wonder about or dont understand about the article.
Or write a 3 sentence connection.

Thursday

2 Lines that Stand Out:

Include a couple of sentences on the importance of each line. Why did the lines resonate with you and
why are they important to the article.

1 Inference:
What inference can you make about the aspect of the article? Can you infer something about the
writer? The people in the article? The event occurring? The argument being made?

1 - What if:
Create one what if question that applies to the article each week.
