Dear President Obama:
On September 9, 2016, the House of Representatives unanimously passed S. 2040, the Justice
Against Sponsors of Terrorisms Act (JASTA). This measure, as you know, seeks to ensure that
victims and the families of victims of international terrorism may pursue justice against foreign
nations that sponsor terrorism. | write to voice my unwavering support for this bipartisan piece
of legislation.
Both the U.S. Congress and the Executive branch have repeatedly affirmed that civil litigation
against the sponsors of terrorism, including foreign states, can serve an important deterrent
effect. JASTA will work to seek justice for thousands of Americans while providing an additional
tool to fight terrorism.
The victims of terrorism should have full access to the legal system. Terrorist attacks, like those
that occurred on September 11th, brought unmeasurable pain and suffering to American
families. JASTA helps update our legal system to ensure victims of terror attacks can pursue
justice.
urge you to stand up for American victims and their families by signing into law the Justice
Against Sponsors of Terrorisms Act.
Sincerely,
JM |. ezpebd
