Protein kinase inhibitors (molecular targeted cancer therapy) are
improvement over traditional cancer therapies target cancer cells more
specifically therefore have less side effects compared to normal therapy. Traditional Chemotherapy and radiation target cancer cells but also have undesirable effects on normal cells. Protein kinases are enzymes that transfers a terminal phosphate (PO4) group from ATP to a hydroxyl group on protein in a process called phosphorylation leading to a conformational change and modulation in the function of the protein while protein kinase inhibitor is an enzyme inhibitor that blocks the action of one or more protein kinases.
