Which character did you consider the most unethical person? Why?

In my opinion, the most unethical person in the movie was the CEO of the company, John
Tuld. I chose him as the most unethical because he was willing to do everything in order to
advance his personal interests at the expense of a crippled economy. My basis of ethics is
situated in the principle of Utilitarianism; that the best moral action is one that would benefit
the many instead of the few. Which is why, as a CEO of a trading company, he shouldve
known the consequences of his choice to sell all of the bad stocks in the market; that in
pursuing the option to sell the stocks, it would create a bubble which would weaken the
countrys economy. In addition, after compelling its employees to sell the bad stocks, he
eventually dismissed them at the end of the day saying that there wont be any loose ends.
Tuld engaged in a business practice harmful to the society.

Which character did you consider the most ethical person? Why?

The character which I consider as the most ethical person is Sam Rogers. Again, as my
ethical basis, Utilitarianism states that the best moral action is one that would maximize
utility. Here, when Tuld informed Rogers and the others about his plan to sell the bad stocks,
Rogers was the only one who confronted Tuld that it was a bad decision since the stocks
would spread throughout the American financial sector. In that scene, it was only Rogers who
objected to the proposed decision, thus, it can be reasonably inferred that the other people in
the room are the same as Tuld; that their agenda is to advance their own interest at the
expense of the others.

Which character did you identify with the most and why?

I identify myself to the character of Seth Bregman. I am aware that when I encounter a
dilemma which involves two alternatives which are both important, I would, as much as
possible, try to run away from it. I identify myself with Bregman because his conduct
(occupying himself with booze and other things that are related to money) reflects the actions
that I would undertake if I was situated in a dilemma similar to him. As a young adult, it is
innate that ones concern over financial stability is given more importance than the other

aspects in life. There was a scene in the movie where Bregman was scared that he might get
dismissed and lose a way to earn money. Because of that, I can easily say that I identify
myself with the character of Bregman.
