owning one in the future. I'm
not afraid of guns either. In
times of danger to one's life,
the presence or availability of
a gun could deter the poten-
tial commission of a crime.
Most crimes are committed
with the use of guns. Come to
think of it, if each one of us is
aware that the next person
sitting beside us carries a
gun, then the bad guy would
think twice -- hopefully --
before carrying out whatever
evil plans he has.
I personally believe that
the PNP should impose a
permanent gun ban. It
should first, however, get the
consensus of its stakeholders
before it decides on the issue
at hand. The general consen-
sus will help the police
leadership weight the pros
and cons of gun ownership
and control. The general
public should also be
represented in the summit.
After all, we are the biggest
stakeholders of the PNP.
