To mark its 10th anniversary, the Athens

International Short Film FestivalPSAROKOKALO makes a bold move to launch
a separate National Competition Section,
focusing exclusively on Greek production.
This move has been an original goal but at
the same time a vindication for our event.
We placed it as a goal, not because Greek
short films are not equal to the
international competition, on the contrary,
because Greek production has taken giant
steps forward these past years and the
harsh effort of the Greek film makers
deserves a better presentation. At the same
time, for the Festival team, it is definitely
a vindication since, during these 10 years
of its existence, film makers and audiences
have embraced enthusiastically our event, a
fact that is - if nothing else- clearly
proven by the 100 or so applications we
have received this year, when the new
section was announced. And for that we
truly thank you.

Now-a- days, more and more film makers

turn to the subject of ecology, as our
planet keeps constantly deteriorating.
However, cinema attempted to depict the
relationship between man and his
environment since its very birth as an
art form, with films like Robert Flaherty's
"Nanouk of the North" (1922) and Luchino
Visconti's " La Terra Trema" (1948) to
contemporary "Avatar" by James Cameron
and "The Revenant" by Alejandro Inarritu.
But apart from being treated as themes
for entertainment, environmental issues
have also been vastly depicted with the
aim of informing. The films chosen for
this year's Eco International Competition
Programme combine both aspects, while
demonstrating in the most aspiring way,
t he close relation between the
environment (or our eco conscience - if
you prefer-) a nd our modern societies.

Far east in the Himalayan

border of India and China,
lives the tribal Adi people,
by the river Siang. The
political conflict between
China and India over the
water of the river
endangers their survival
and that of their culture.
Yet, their view on the
paradoxes of the modern
world portrays their
inspiring resilience and
hope.

In the Amazon jungle, the

borders between Brazil and
Peru, run with the quiet
waters of Jaquirana and
Javari rivers... In the
village of Lobo, 4.000 km
from Braslia, a nation
divided by a line gets
together to respond to a
threat of war.

INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION ARCHITECTURE

2016 - Space and Dance
Let s suppose that the human body
and its movement are what give life to
architecture. Human motion as an
expression of the soul. The simplest
every-day movement, but also the most
unexpected, spontaneous and sudden...
Is it the space that defines the
movement of the body, or the movement
of the body and the anthropometric
dimensions that define space?
