The Stealth II G460 is for all PC users who want to boost their PC with 3D animation, 2D graphics power, and

To install your Stealth II G460, you need to first install the hardware and then the software drivers and utilities
provided on the installation CD.

INSTALLING THE STEALTH II G460 HARDWARE


Warning! To avoid accidental electric shock, shut your computer down and unplug the power cord before
starting the following procedures. Remember which cables go to which connectors. You may want to label your
computer's cables before disconnecting them. To protect your Stealth II G460 card from damage due to static
electrical discharge, ground yourself by touching the power supply box inside your computer.
ImportantTo use this card, you must have a slot 1 motherboard with Intel AGP chipset and be running
Windows 95 OSR2 (version 4.00.950 B) on an Intel Pentium II motherboard that has been updated with the USB
OSR2.1 supplement or Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3.

Before You Install the Stealth II G460 AGP Card


It is recommended that you set your display driver to Standard VGA before you shut down your computer and
then remove your legacy (AGP, PCI, or ISA) VGA card.
NoteSome systems have an integrated graphics solution on the motherboard. Contact your motherboard
manufacturer to determine how to disable your on-board graphics.

Windows 95
To set your display to Standard VGA:
1. From the Start menu, go to Start > Settings> Control Panels, then double-click on Display. The Display
Properties sheet appears.
2. Click on the Settings tab, then press the Advanced Properties button.
3. Click on the Adapter tab, then press the Change button. The Select Device window appears.
4. Click on the Show All Devices bullet. Under Manufacturers select (Standard Display Types). Under
Models, select Standard Display Adapter (VGA).
5. Click on Apply, then click on OK in all windows to close and accept the changes.
6. Shut down your computer and remove the computer case cover. Remove your old graphics card and install
your new Stealth II G460.

Windows NT 4.0
To set your display to Standard VGA:
1. From the Start menu, go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, then double click on Display. The Display
Properties sheet appears.
2. Click on the Settings tab, then click the Display Type button.
3. Under Adapter Type, click on the Change button. The Change Display window appears.
4. Under Manufacturers, select Standard Display Types. Under Display, choose VGA Compatible Display
Adapter.
5. Click on OK. You may need to insert your Windows NT 4.0 CD-ROM.
6. Click on Close and OK to accept the changes.
7. Shut down your computer and remove the computer case cover. Remove your old graphics card and install
your new Stealth II G460.
NoteYou must have Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 3 loaded for the Stealth II G460 to operate
properly. Service Pack 3 is available from Microsoft's web page at www.microsoft.com.
After you have completed the steps above and removed your old graphics card, you can continue with the
procedures below to install your Stealth II G460.

Installing the Stealth II G460 AGP Card


To install your Stealth II G460 card:
1. With the power off, remove your computer cover and locate the available AGP slot.

Note that the AGP slot is dark brown in color.


2. Remove the screw attached to the bracket cover and remove the bracket plate.

3. Position the Stealth II G460 card directly above the AGP slot.

Make sure the VGA connector end of the card is facing the open end of the bracket you just removed.

4. Insert your Stealth II G460 firmly into the AGP slot. Care should be taken to press it evenly and snugly into
its slot.

5. Once you are certain your Stealth II G460 is installed properly in its slot, secure to the computer frame with
the screw you removed in step 2.

6. Connect your VGA monitor cable to the 15-pin socket on your Stealth II G460 card.
7. Secure your computer cover and reboot your computer.

INSTALLING THE STEALTH II G460 SOFTWARE UNDER


WINDOWS 95
Now that you have installed the Stealth II G460 hardware and rebooted your computer, complete your
installation using the directions that follow.
ImportantYou must be running Windows 95 OSR2 (version 4.00.950 B) on an Intel AGP chipset motherboard
that has been updated with the USB OSR2.1 supplement. You can verify if the USB update is loaded on your
system by right-clicking on My Computer and selecting Properties. The System Properties sheet appears.
Select Device Manager. Examine the device list. If you see the item USB serial bus controller, your system is
updated. If you do not, contact your computer manufacturer for more information.
After you install the video card in the system and reboot your computer:
1. Windows 95 informs you that it has discovered a new PCI VGA-Compatible Display Adapter and prompts you
to install the drivers.
2. Click Next. Please wait for Windows to search for the device driver.
3. When Device Wizard informs you it has found the updated driver for this device (Standard PCI Graphics
Adapter (VGA)), click Finish.
4. When the System Settings Changes window requests you to restart your computer, click on Yes to reboot.
You are now ready to proceed to the section entitled Running Quick Start CD for Windows 95 to complete
installation.
NoteIf Windows finishes booting up but does not detect your new hardware, insert the installation CD and
follow the instructions in the next section, Running Quick Start CD for Windows 95.

Running Quick Start CD for Windows 95


To make installing your video card easier and more intuitive, Diamond has provided an installation utility that
can be run from the Diamond Quick Start CD-ROM. From the Quick Start CD, you can install software drivers as
well as learn more about Diamond and its products, and read on-line product manuals.
The Diamond CD automatically determines which operating system you are running and installs the appropriate
drivers for that operating system.
1. Insert the Diamond Quick Start CD into your CD-ROM drive.
2. The Quick Start program will start automatically and identify your operating system to install the correct
drivers.
3. If your CD-ROM auto-run is not enabled, click on Start> Run and run X:\Win95\disk1\Install (where X is
your CD-ROM drive) and continue with the instructions in the next section, Manual Installation
Instructions for Windows 95.
4.

From the Quick Start Welcome screen, click on the Continue button.

5. From the Choices screen, you can learn more about Diamond and its products, install software drivers, and
read on-line product manuals.
6. To begin the installation process of your display drivers, click on Installation.
7. You will be given a choice of drivers to install, including bonus software provided with your board.
8. Once your drivers have been copied, you will be prompted to reboot your computer. Choose Finish.

Manual Installation Instructions for Windows 95


If, for some reason, you need to install only the video drivers or want to do a manual install, follow the steps
below.
1. Once Windows 95 restarts, insert the Quick Start CD into your CD-ROM drive.
2. When the Quick Start utility automatically starts, select Quit. From the Start Menu, select the Run dialog
box and type X:\Win95\Disk1\Install.exe (where X is the letter of your CD-ROM drive).
3. Click Here for optional command line switch options that you can use when installing the Diamond
Windows 95 display drivers. Once the Diamond Setup Wizard dialog box appears, you will be able to review
the ReadMe file or continue on with the installation by selecting Next.
4. From this point, the Setup Wizard will take over and lead you through the rest of the installation. The Setup
Wizard will now check for Diamond components installed in your computer. Click Next to proceed.
5. A dialog box will appear containing the path where InControl Tools 95 will be installed. The default path is:
C:\Program Files\Diamond. Select Next or change the path as necessary. The next dialog box selects the
installation type. There are three installation types: Minimal, Full, and Custom. They are defined as follows:
Minimal:

Installs only the Diamond Stealth Display Driver.

Standard:

Installs the Diamond Stealth Display Driver and InControl Tools 95.

Custom:

Allows installation of either the Diamond Stealth Display Driver or InControl


Tools 95. At the minimum, the Diamond Stealth Display Driver must be
installed during a first-time installation.

6. If Custom Setup was selected, a dialog box appears allowing selection of various items. Select the items to be
installed by clicking on them with the left mouse button. When finished, click Next to continue. At the
Select Files To Be Copied dialog box, click Next to begin the file copying process. After the files have been
copied, you will want to click on Finish to complete the installation. Windows 95 will ask that the computer
be restarted. Click on Yes to restart the computer.
You have now successfully installed the software for your Diamond Stealth II G460 board. Congratulations!

INCONTROL TOOLS FOR WINDOWS 95


Diamond's InControl Tools allows you to take charge of your monitors display and make Windows easier to use
and control. More than a set of configuration utilities, InControl Tools allows your Diamond video card to be the
complete graphics solution for your PC.

How is InControl Tools Installed?


When you installed the Stealth II G460 drivers (see previous section in this chapter), you may be requested by the
system to install Diamonds InControl Tools. If you clicked Yes, when you reboot your computer, the InControl
Tools 95 Wizard starts up. Follow the step-by-step directions in the wizard to quickly configure the display
properties to your liking.

WINDOWS NT 4.0
Now that you have installed the Stealth II G460 hardware and rebooted your computer, complete your
installation using the directions that follow in Running Quick Start CD for Windows NT 4.0 or Manual
Installation Instructions for Windows NT 4.0.
NoteYou must have Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 3 loaded for the Stealth II G460 to operate
properly. Service Pack 3 is available from Microsoft's web page at www.microsoft.com.

Running Quick Start CD for Windows NT 4.0


To make installing your video card easier and more intuitive, Diamond has provided an installation utility that

REMOVING STEALTH II G460

To remove the Stealth II G460 software and hardware, follow the appropriate procedures below.

REMOVING SOFTWARE UNDER WINDOWS 95


1. Select Start, then Control Panel, Add, and Remove Programs.
2. Click on Add/Remove.
3. Choose Diamond Multimedia Product Installation and Removal.
4. Choose Next, then Next again.
5. Choose Remove All, then click Next.
6. When prompted to choose a display driver select Show All Devices under Manufacturers. Choose Standard
Display Types under Models, and choose Standard Display Adapter (VGA). Click on OK.
7. Select Finish.
8. When asked if you wish to Restart the Computer, respond Yes.
9. Your computer will come back up on standard VGA.

REMOVING SOFTWARE UNDER WINDOWS NT 4.0


1. Choose Diamond Display Component Uninstall.
2. Double-click on Diamond Display Component Uninstall.
3. Choose Remove the Product.
4. Click Next and your system will reboot.

REMOVING HARDWARE
After you remove the software according to the instructions above, do the following:
1. Shut down your computer.
2. Disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet.
3. Remove the computer case as outlined in the hardware installation instructions in Chapter 2.
4. Ground yourself by touching the power supply box.
5. Now simply reverse the hardware installation procedures from Chapter 3.

TROUBLESHOOTING

WINDOWS 95
If you experience a problem using Stealth II G460 under Windows 95, there are three possible causes of your
problem:

Your game or application is incompatible with the Stealth II G460 or is not compatible with D3D.

Stealth II G460 hardware is not properly installed.

Stealth II G460 drivers are not correctly installed.

Your Game or Application is Incompatible with


Stealth II G460
Stealth II G460 supports the following:

Windows 95

Windows 95 Microsoft Direct3D

DirectX 5.0

Windows NT 4.0

OpenGL

If the game you are playing does not support one of these 3D APIs, your game will not be able to recognize the
Stealth II G460, and hence will not take advantage of it. Check with the game publisher in question about
obtaining a version that will support these 3D APIs.

Stealth II G460 Hardware is not Properly Installed


Check to make sure that the Stealth II G460 is properly seated in the AGP slot and that the VGA monitor cable is
firmly and correctly connected top your graphics card. For more information, please see section 3, Installing
Stealth II G460.

Stealth II G460 Drivers are not Correctly Installed


Check your Windows Device Manager (Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Device Manager) to
determine if all the drivers are installed properly. The properties dialog for the Display Adapter will show if the
driver is functioning properly.

DIAMOND STEALTH II G460 WARRANTY


Your Stealth II G460 comes with a five-year hardware warranty when you register your Diamond product.
Diamond Multimedia Systems, Inc., (Diamond) warrants this Stealth II G460 against defects in material and
workmanship for a period of five years from the date of purchase from Diamond or an authorized Diamond
agent. This warranty applies only to the original purchaser of the Stealth II G460 and is not transferable. This
warranty does not cover any incompatibilities due to the user's computer, hardware, software or any other related

system configuration in which the Stealth II interfaces. Proof of purchase will be required before any warranty
consideration by Diamond occurs.
This warranty does not cover any damage caused by negligence, non-authorized modifications, or parts installed
without prior written permission from Diamond.
This warranty does not apply if the product has been damaged by accident, abuse, misuse, or misapplication, nor
as a result of service to the product by anyone other than Diamond.
DIAMOND IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LOST PROFITS, LOST SAVINGS OR OTHER INCIDENTAL OR
CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF THE USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE, THIS PRODUCT. THIS
