Service Tool Manual

Date:

06-May-1998

Introduction

The Service Tool is a hand held terminal designed to be connected with the Controller to
perform installation and maintenance purposes.
It is usable for all MCS elevator types and all subsystems since the software resides in the
subsystems but not in the Tool itself. Also the power is supplied by the connected subsystem. Therefore no batteries have ever to be changed.

Hardware Overview

The Service Tool provides a keyboard with 16 keys and a display with 2 rows each consisting of 16 columns. Some of the keys have a second function which can be accessed by
previously pressing the SHIFT KEY. The connection to the Controller is done by a RS 422
serial communication line.

Software Overview

The Software for the Service Tool provides a menu system which is organised as a tree
structure. With the numeric keys and the keys MODULE, FUNCTION and SET you can
easily move through the system. With the key CLEAR you can always clear the most recently pressed key.

3.1

Power On

After Power On the Service Tool performs a self test. After the successful test the serial
communication to the LMCSS is checked. Depending on the result of this test a message is
displayed.
To enter the menu system the key 'M' has to be pressed. To view the software version of
the Service Tool press the SHIFT KEY and then 'M'.

Menu System

You may select the module (subsystem) you want to enter in the Module Menu. If the
Service Tool is connected to the LMCSS you are able to look into DBSS and DCSS, too.
Press '2' to select the LMCSS menu. To achieve information about the other modules
please refer to the according manuals.
After you have gone deeper into the menus you can always return to the Module Menu by
pressing 'M' (Note: if you have pressed SHIFT previously, you will see the Service Tool version number. In this case simply press 'M' again).
The LMCSS Menu shows four types of functions. These are selected by pressing the according number key. To return to the LMCSS Menu from a deeper point of the Menu System you can press 'F' at any time.
With the Function Menus you can select the function to be performed. Some functions can
only be accessed by answering another menu. The reason is to show the grouping of the
functions. After performing a function you can go back to the Function Menu by pressing 'S'.
To scroll through the menus use the GO ON and GO BACK keys. A graphical description of
the menu system can be found on the next page.

Selftest

This function performs a test of the memory chips and looks for serial communication errors. After entering the menu the test is started automatically. During the EPROM and
EEPROM test the checksum is calculated and compared with the stored value. If the
checksum for the EEPROM is wrong due to changes in the setup parameters the new value
will be written into the EEPROM so that the next selftest will show a positive result. During
the RAM test the contents is read, written and read again to check the functionality of all
memory cells. The test of the serial communication links to OCSS, DCSS, DBSS, and
Servicetool reads out if communication errors occurred in the event logging.

Calibrate Functions

The calibrate functions are used setup system variables which cannot be presetup in the

To learn the exact positions of hoistway switches the Learn Run is used. With the PVT

Learn Run

The learn run is a basic feature of the position reference. By running slowly through the
hoistway all important positions of the hoistway switches are checked for consistency and
the exact positions are written into the EEPROM.
Preconditions:
Before performing a learn run it is necessary that all hoistway installation is finished and
adjusted properly and that all setup parameters in the EEPROM are valid for the present
installation.
The runtime check Car Non Start (DDP Time) is not active during the run. To check especially the setup parameters which are used for the position reference please use the
SERVICETOOL menu PVT Test (<Modul<>2<>4<>2>). Make an inspection run and compare during the run the dictated velocity (DV) with the actual velocity (AV) which is measured with the PVT (Primary Velocity Transducer).
If these velocities are not equal please check the profile generator setup parameter "VELOCITY NORMAL", "MOTOR SPEED" AND "COUNTS PER REVOL" or the speed dictation in the drive might also be wrong. Velocity differences up to 2% are acceptable.
During the start sequence of the learn run the distance for the 1LS, 2LS switches to the
terminal landings is calculated from the actual setup of profile parameters. Make sure that
the distance for the limit switches in the hoistway matches the displayed distance plus or
minus the "1LS, 2LS TOLERANCE" setup parameter. The 1LS, 2LS TOLERANCE is used
for the LEARN RUN only, not in case of normal operation. Otherwise the learn run might
pass the last doorzone or stop before reaching the doorzone and abort the learn run.

Imbalance Load Compensation

the imbalance load compensation is used for units with analog load weighting to compensate the position dependant imbalance of the car in the top or bottom of the shaft, which is
caused by the hoistway ropes and the travelling cable. Imbalance load compensation is
called rollback and can be solved with the adjusting of the % Overbal. Top and % Overbal.
Bot parameter.
Put test weights for the calculated balance load into the car.
Check in the middle of the shaft the balance of the car and counterweight.
Run the car with balance load to the bottom landing.
Set the parameter % Overbal. Top and % Overbal. Bot to zero.
To get the Overbal. Bot value, change the % Overbalance parameter until no rollback during a start is not noticeable.
Then remember this value.
Run the car with balance load to the top landing.
To get the Overbal. Top value, change the % Overbalance parameter until no rollback during a start is not noticeable.
Then remember this value.
After the values have been determined set the % Overbal. Top and % Overbal. Bot parameter to the remembered values.
Reset the % Overbalance parameter back to the balance value of the car.
Then the software calculates automatically the imbalance factor for each floor and adds it to
the DBSS biastorque.
The parameter % Overbalance (usually 45 - 50 %) must be set between % overbal. Top
and % Overbal. Bot.
Rollback Check:

HSVF: Set the parameter Delay Brake Lifted to a high value (2 sec. or more).
HSDD: Bridge out the brake contacts so that the drive does not detect brake lifted.
Start the system by using ERO up or down button.
Watch the drive sheave moves within the first 2 seconds.
Release ERO buttons.
Change the % Overbalance parameter until no rollback occurs.

Door Check Sequence for MCS 321(M) / 413M Controllers

Preconditions:

- Wiring of safety chain is completed,

- Learn Run must be finished successfully,
- Doors are adjusted and operating.

The Door Check Sequence is a safety feature for MCS 321(M) / 413M Controllers. It insures that all hoistway door contacts are installed correctly and are able to open the safety
chain.
If the Door Check Sequence was not finished successfully it is only possible to move the
car in inspection mode. Normal runs are disabled.
The Door Check Sequence is an automatic run which is started via the SERVICETOOL. It
can be started at any position in the hoistway with or without a valid position.
At systems with TLD / CLD doors this check runs full automatically from the bottom to the
top landing.
At systems with ACG doors the DCS run stops at the ACG floor and waits until the hoistway
door was opened by hand.
As it is not allowed to run faster than 0.6 m/s it uses the "VELOCITY INSPECTION" and
"ACCELERATION INSPECTION" profile parameters. The runtime check Car Non Start
(DDP Time) is not active during the run.
It first runs to the bottom floor, operates automatically the front and if available the rear door
and checks via the DW input if the safety chain at the hoistway door is open. Then it runs to
all other floors, cycles automatically the doors which are setup in the LANDING mask and
checks the DW input. It finishes at the top floor with the message that the test was successfully or it stops at the floor where a DW failure occurs.
To perform the Door Check Sequence first setup the profile parameters "VELOCITY INSPECT" and "ACCELERA INSPECT" which are used during the run. The velocity can be
close to the maximum allowed value (0.6 m/s).
If the parameters "Top Floor" or "Bottom Floor" are changed than the flag which indicates that the Door Check Sequence was successful performed is reset and a new
DCS-Run must be performed.
