Hydrogel sea cucumber (Stichopus variegatus) is known to contain a variety
of active ingredients which are very useful for human beings. Antibacterial activity of the hydrogel sea cucumber has become a source of new drugs can be developed because the potential is big with a high level of diversity and uniqueness of the new compounds were found in particular natural sea organisms. The purpose of this study is to determine the antibacterial activity of hydrogels cucumbers as medikamen the root canal. Antibacterial hydrogels sea cucumber (Stichopus variegatus) gel compared with calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) which is material "gold standard" in endodontic treatments. In this study, carried out comparative antibacterial ability of calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) and hydrogels sea cucumber (Stichopus variegatus) 0.2% by displaying their solution against bacteria Enterococcus faecalis (E.faecalis) ATCC 29212 and isolate Clinic which have been mixed with liquid BHI media, then incubated for 3 hours, 24 hours, 48 hours with the temperature 370C. The results showed that overall there is a significant difference in bacterial growth between 8 E.faecalis treatment group, which made the control work BHI, BHI with bacteria E.faecalis ATCC 29212 and clinical isolates as a positive control, and treatment of bacterial biofilm E. faecalis ATCC 29212, biofilm E.faecalis clinical isolates, cucumbers hydrogel coating, coating of Ca(OH)2, hydrogel + E.faecalis ATCC 29212 sea cucumber, sea cucumber + E.faecalis hydrogel clinical isolate, Ca(OH)2 + E.faecalis ATCC 29212 and Ca(OH)2 + E.faecalis Clinical isolates, obtained significant results with values of p <0.05. In this research also uses the time behavior that is 3 hours, 24 jamdan 48 hours. The overall results obtained in 24 hours that is an improvement on the antibacterial hydrogel sea cucumber (Stichopus variegatus) compared to 3 hours and 48 hours. This is because during the 24 hours it is time prematurasi bacteria. From the above it can be concluded that hydrogels sea cucumber (Stichopus variegatus) to eliminate bacteria Enterococcus faecalis biofilm adhesion.
