Governments should focus on solving the immediate problems of today rather

than on trying to solve the anticipated problems of the future.

Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree
with the recommendation and explain your reasoning for the position you take.
In developing and supporting your position, describe specific circumstances in
which adopting the recommendation would or would not be advantageous and
explain how these examples shape your position.
The issue states that "Governments should focus on solving the immediate
problems of today rather than on trying to solve the anticipated problems of the
future. This is a very interesting topic and much can be said on it. The issue at
hand can be elaborated with the following illustrations.
Focusing on the present scenario and problems and coming up with pragmatic
solutions as soon as possible will help in creating a better tomorrow. This will put
into perspective all the detrimental issues that can be addressed before it gets
exacerbated.
For example, poverty and, ill-literacy are one of the major issues in a country
like India. There are sections of people who struggle to have single meal a day.
The government has to provide subsidies to the poorer sections and come up
strategies to reduce the inflation which is growing at a rapid pace. Also, in a
country like India which has produced remarkable pundits like Ramanujam,
Abdul Kalam there are still children who are yet to receive formal education from
school. The ill-literacy rate has to be brought down by providing quality
education especially in parts of rural India. We are heading towards a future
filled with technologies and to be able to cope with that, basic education is
mandatory. India is also known as an agricultural country. But there is very little
focus on ways to advance the production methods and multiply its productivity.
What is on a rising scale is the death toll of number of farmers and agricultural
lands turning into industries or residential plots.
On the other hand, Focusing on the present issues alone will result in great
chaos (because of its great magnitude) this will prevent the overseeing of the
plausible future issues. For example, especially in a country like India, which is
surrounded by belligerent nations, should definitely focus on strengthening its
Military, Naval and, Air force technologies and be prepared for a war anytime.
Thus on a concluding note it can be said that Governments should focus on
solving the immediate problems of today in such a way that most detrimental
issues get an immediate solution at the same time there is enough focus about
the plausible problems of tomorrow and ways to avoid them in the future.

Natures Way, a chain of stores selling health foods and other health-related
products, is opening its next franchise in the town of Plainsville. The store should
prove to be very successful: Natures way franchises tend to be most profitable
in areas where residents lead healthy lives, and clearly Plainsville is such an
area. Plainsville merchants report that sales of running shoes and exercise
clothing are at all-time highs. The local health club has more members than
ever, and the weight training and aerobics classes are always full. Finally,
Plainsvilles school children represent a new generation of potential customers:
these schoolchildren are required to participate in a fitness-for-life program,
which emphasizes the benefits of regular exercise at an early age.
Write a response in which you examine the stated and/or unstated assumptions
of the argument. Be sure to explain how the argument depends on these
assumptions and what the implications are for the argument if the assumptions
prove unwarranted.

It is clear from the argument that Natures way, a store selling health food and
health products is opening a new branch in the town Plainsville. Choosing this
place clearly seems to be a good option considering the fact that its residents
are all health oriented and lead healthy lives. But before making such an
expensive move it should conduct surveys whether the people of Plainsville are
open to consuming health products or they only believe in physical exercise.
In addition making a conclusion based on merchants report of good market for
running shoes and exercise clothing is not reliable. They are products that wear
and tear and are very much different from those health products that Natures
way store would provide. And people often buy clothes and shoes even though
they have a wide range of collection (especially when there is great discount
provided). Also, the fact that the health club has more member than ever maybe
because the club provides very good facilities like gym, spa, Badmiton courts
etc.
Also, the argument concludes by stating that the schoolchildren represent a new
generation of potential customers. This is completely ill-logical and it may hold
true if the products that is being sold is a trivial thing like a toy or candies etc
Opening a store by basing on this fact is may prove to be a great mistake.

To conclude, the argument looks unconvincing because of the defects

mentioned above. Therefore Opening of a new franchise of the Natures way
without conducting surveys among the residents of Plainsville may prove to be a
great mistake and the store may not be profitable.
