Antarctica Map Making Challenge

Your challenge, in your group, is to recreate a map


of Antarctica.
You will be provided with a number of items from the list
below:
a washing line (this will be used to mark the outline of
the continent)
blue plastic sacks and cloths
blue and white paper cups
blue and white washing-up sponges
random blue items
an iPad
You will be given points for doing the following things
successfully:
marking the outline of the Antarctic continent (including
peninsula) accurately
showing the major ice shelves at the edge of the continent
plotting the Transantarctic mountains and marking other
significant mountains
adding some of the scientific bases that we have been looking at,
such as the Rothera and Vostok bases
showing some of the areas of claims by different countries,
particularly the UK
adding in some of the major glaciers and ice sheets
marking other relevant features linked to scientific research,
tourism or wildlife

Once youve made your map:


a) take some pictures of your map, including one from
above with the iPad
b) paste the picture(s) into a suitable app you can
choose to create a short presentation / comic strip or
iMovie trail to add a voiceover and possible captions
to take people on a tour of your map alternatively do
this filming live with one of your group as the tour
guide
Tidy all the equipment carefully back into the bag that you
will be given

Wrap up warm, and be prepared to head South
