TREE AS ELEMENTS OF LANDSCAPING

The beauty of the planet earth is entirely hidden in Mother Nature. She not only keeps us alive, but also nurtures and nourishes our senses. Her
elements made the planet earth livable for us .One such element of nature is tree. We depend on trees for almost every aspect of life. Leaves of the
trees act as oxygen industries, producing the most essential gas for the existence of animals by the process known as photosynthesis. Trees provide
fruits edible by both human beings and other animals. They produce other types of foods also. We get fibre from many trees from which we obtain
constituents of clothes. Many trees provide timber, which can be used for numerous purposes. Timber is an essential element for the construction of
houses, boats, furniture, house wares and many kinds of frameworks. Trees provide shelter to many species of animals and provided shelter to
human beings at the dawn of civilization. In short, the description of the significance of trees in our existence can be commenced, but not finished.
But the present work is concerned only with the trees as natural elements for landscaping.

Trees can be used in many ways for landscaping which are stated below:

Some trees have large spreads and provide cool shade. Such trees are suitable of being used as avenue trees.

Many of the trees have attractive flowers and foliage, some bear flowers with nice fragrance. These trees are used as garden

plants: providing
both visual pleasure and sweet fragrance.

The trees that add to the beauty of the site are not limited in the gardens; rather they are extensively used in public squares,

parks and other open

spaces in urban areas.

Some trees can produce fantastic display of their images due to reflection on the surface of adjacent water body. Such trees can be planted on the
banks of ponds, lakes and streams.

There are trees that produce fruits are not edible for human being, but eaten by birds, bats, squirrels and other animals. They

are very useful for

the preservation of the ecosystem of that site.
So tree plays the major role as a natural element of landscaping.
The following chapter contains one hundred species of trees that can be used for landscaping in our country. Some general information of the trees
such as growth habit, type (whether evergreen or deciduous), size (height, spread and girth), root system, growth rate, growth requirements, foliage
characteristics, flowering and fruiting characteristics, propagation, life span and maintenance, along with some photographs of the full grown tree,
leaves, flowers and fruits are given in this chapter.
